Now that Kodak is bankrupt, I presume this will affect any Kodak stores?

Cant remember ever seeing one Kodak going cant be any real surprise. Hardly anyone uses films anymore, or gets photos printed by Kodak or buys Kodak cameras.

This is the problem IMHO. Yes Kodak have digital processing stores like SupaSnaps. Are they still going?

The branch in Hampstead hasn't reopened since George Michael smashed his car into it.

What's that all about?”

I would say Peacocks is just slightly above the quality that Primark offer, but what I imagine has been the biggest problem at Peacocks in the last 12 - 18 months has been there completely unjustified huge price rises.

I know most shops raised there prices due to increases in there costs, but many stores it was unnoticeable or quite slight, but peacocks seemed to increase theres by like 30-40% which was outrageous and did not make any sense what so ever.

I could not see any reason for this, I stopped shopping in there for that reason

Can anyone who works for them answer these questions ?

I got a lovely coat from Peacocks for £12. I got it years ago, but I still wear it.

Sad times.

I was saddened to hear of Past Times going into administration. I like their quaint little things and there isn't really anything similar on the High Street that does what they do.

Kodak have not gone bankrupt they have filed for Chapter 11 bankrupsy protection, This is diferent from bankrupsy, it protects the company from its creditors giving it time to reorganise it's finances. If finances canot be sorted in the time that the court gives then the next step is bankrupsy, but they are not at that stage just yet.

It's the American arm of Kodak that's affected, not the British one.

Yep, I was very surprised to see a rather large C&A store in Berlin... didn't realise it was still popular in Europe :

I was thinking of getting a Kodak printer. Cheapest ink, so I'm told (not that I'm tight, but..). Should I put off those plans now?

Maybe we will see the return of the high street family business shops once more as those out of town capitalist outfits dissapear. It's been long overdue anyway, nothing wrong with a bit of restructuring.

Kodak dont make the printers they are made by liteon, another company makes the ink, infact apart from film Kodak dont make anything anymore all the manufacturing is oustsourced. However Kodak have not gone bankrupt yet they have only applied for bankrupsy protection, if they do go to full bankrupsy im sure the companies who make Kodaks products will simply licence the brand in i similar way what happend when Poleroid went bus a few years back.

I think it's scandalous that they will happily earn more money with new purchases but not let someone have goods that have, in effect, already been paid for.

She was very annoyed.

I realise that this happens with all companies gone into administration, not just Peacocks. As a general point, though, I think it is very unfair, especially so soon after Christmas when people will still have unspent vouchers/gift cards. Why don't stores accept gift cards when they go into administration? Can someone please explain the reasoning behind this? I imagine it's something to do with the creditors.”

It's all down to the administrators I don't know the reason behind it but the administrators laid down the rules no refunds either. The poor staff had awful abuse yesterday and it looks like it's no better today. I've heard that the police had to be called to some stores because the customers were so aggressive that's the last thing the staff needs. There have been some lovely customers one bought a few bags and told them I probably don't need them but I'd like to help out in some way. There was a telephone number doing the rounds you can contact them but apparently all they do is add you to the list of people that the company owes. You never know something may happen if the company gets sold. The rent has been paid until March so it looks like Peacocks will stay open until at least then.

Yeah, but it's not good is it. Surely to turn a business around that is in such dire straits... well, it's little short of a Herculean task! They were clearly too set in their ways, totally inflexible to change. If you could apply star signs to businesses they'd undoubtedly be a Taurus.

Dream on. That is not going to happen. Empty shops will become coffee shops, banks, betting shops and estate agents.

That is another reason I hate CPW. We lost a useful store and got another useless mobile phone store, thank goodness Maplin decided to open a shop here.

You can dream, Our council have sold our city to big companies, they have agreed for a new shopping centre to be built with Debenhams, something called Nandos or something like that, a waitrose as if we need another supermarket, some other big chain stores and a multiscreen cinema.

The cinema is something we need to be honest, but the rest will just take more customers away from the city centre it will become a ghost town.

i be staying well clear of it when it is built, the money our council have wasted on this is unbelievable, but they don't care, I expect they are getting something out of it.

i tend to stay away from town these days, nothing worth going there for, but I did go for a walk yesterday and saw a save Peacocks notice on the window of the store and notice Pastimes, Hawkins Bazzaa and La Senza have closed. Also a small sweet shop that sells sweets in old style jars got a all stock must go sale, so I think they are going as well, that is the second sweet shop in that space to go.

I go into Primark now and again to get socks and boxer shorts as they are cheap and does the job, but I now get my clothes online at Premier man.
