I used to quite like going to Ed's before taking a train up north from Euston. There are lots of places to eat at Euston but most of them are either crap or takeaway places.

Went to the Gino D'Acampo place last time. Won't be making that mistake again.

Not surprised with Eds going under. Hubby and I went into one ince and thought it was overpriced for what it was. Shame to see those lose their jobs especially this time of year

Some people are probably listing places they wouldn't mind seeing in administration, rather than what would realistically could be next in administration.

Tesco are still massively profitable. Their profits have gone downhill because they took their eye off the ball when it came to their core supermarket business, but they're not going bankrupt just yet.

People always bring up WH Smith, but their airport and train station stores make an absolute killing, plus they have a massive magazine and newspaper distribution arm which means they're going nowhere.

BHS could have been seen a mile off once it was spun out of the Arcadia group of companies. Regardless of financial fiddling, it was a Woolworths waiting to happen - dated and pointless. Even if it hadn't have gone down the pan this year it would have happened sooner or later unless some miracle overhaul had occurred.
Their High Street stores were expensive enough for confectionery, crisps and soft drinks, yet they are even more expensive at rail stations, hospitals, motorway service stations and hospitals.

But they get lots of business at rail stations and airports for confectionery, crisps and soft drinks because they are so conveniently placed after people who are very thirsty and hungry get off the trains and planes and before they get on the trains and planes, and they are the only shop at the station that sells such stuff. They can afford to charge so much more at these places.

For newspapers, magazines and TV papers, Smith's can't charge more than the price shown on the papers and mags, so they can't make an extra big profit on those. And not selling well on confectionery, crisps and soft drinks in High Street stores, they have been forced to close High Street stores left right and centre.

Not that surprised about Ed's. The premium burger market is over saturated and there are a lot better out there than Ed's. Byron is a lot, lot better.

Ed's Easy Diner goes into Administration

Really not surprised at this due to their high prices, also in Norwich they would have been facing stiff competition with the opening of Five Guys next week.
Their prices are only high because it's expensive to run a restaurant. Running a restaurant isn't like a retail shop, restaurants make food on the premises and sell it to people. Restaurants require a large amount of staff especially if they are table service, companies like Nandos and GBK have you go to the counter to order, pay for your order and someone brigs it to you, you serve your own drinks meaning they require less staff and so the running costs are lower.

You might hear about how it only costs something like 30p to make a coffee but that is for the raw materials like the coffee beans but you need someone to make the coffee at £7.20 per hour, a coffee bean grinder (around £300), high capacity coffee machine making 3 cups per cycle (around £4,000) plus maintenance and water and electric those things need to be added to the 30p

Many restaurants at lunch time cost around £2 per minute in staff costs so when you buy a lunch deal for £3 they need to be selling at least 2 lunch deals in 3 minutes just to cover staff costs

The price differences with airport/train stations and high street stores are due to higher rent and service charges at airports and train stations which you don't get at standard high street shops, they aren't charging more because people are willing to pay more, they are charging more because there are higher running costs, you will also find they have less stock room and more sales area. Many shops in the city centres are higher than in towns and even lower in low income areas.

The Norwich one is unaffected according to the EDP.
