Advice on sim cards
My mobile has just died on me, I can't switch it on or do anything with it.
My question is, all my phone numbers etc are stored on the sim card, but i believe if I just buy a new phone I can't just swap the sim cards is that right? How can I get my numbers off of the old sim card? Also I had just got a msg, that I was never able to read, will that be stored on the sim card or phone? Will I ever be able to read it? I am happy (ish) to go and buy a new phone tommorow but I really need all the info that is on my sim card, how do I do that? My current tarrif/sim is with Tesco's if that makes any difference? thanks for any advice |

The unread text message will be on the SIM and so should be viewable when you put your SIM into another phone. If all of your contacts are stored on your current SIM then they will also be accessible on the new phone.
If you nip into any carphone warehouse, they can back up the contents of your SIM for free and then if you decide to go with a new provider (and therefore a new SIM) they can then transfer your details onto a new SIM for you. They do this free of charge (or at least they did!) |

Ok thanks, I have a carphone warehouse near me, I'll go see them in the morning, see if they can salvage anything from my sim. I allways saved numbers to the sim card rather than the phone so hopefully they can be accessed still.
Dunno what happened to my phone, it was working, I sent a msg, received one back but the screen was just blank so I couldn't open it. I tried switching it off to then turn it back on, kinda like a reboot, it switched off I just can't switch it back on again

It all depends if you had your contact numbers stored to the phone or the sim card if they are stored to the sim then no problem when you get a new phone.

You can't just stick a old sim card in a new phone though as I have tried that before, they have all these locks and codes in place now I think?
The numbers were saved to the sim not the phone though. |
