there has not been any of the stability issues with the k800i that has bedevilled the k850i, it is considered generally reliable and easy to use.

the main cons are:

- a bit brick-like and heavier than most... although that is not necessariy a bad thing from a camera point of view, and also it's because it is metal-framed which makes it more sturdy and can survive physical abuse better than most

- the camera lens cover slides open too easily, a lot of people have been taking pictures of the inside of their pocket

- the joystick design of the K-series is notorious for being a dust trap... this can result in them sticking or not behaving and developing a mind of their own after a while

- otherwise a great camera-oriented phone, and as it's on its way out, you can get it fairly cheap now, expect to pay no more than £70-80 on a locked PAYG

Prefer my K800i to my Nokia N95, more robust as well. Never had any problems with it at all. Now and again use a bit of blue tac to get the dust from around the joystick so that has behaves superbly.

Wouldn't hesitate having another.

As a phone it's pretty much dated and well past its sell-by date. But as a camera it's very good. It outperforms many of today's camera phones and this is a picture I took with mine.

well it was released 2 years ago... admittedly that is a long time in mobile phone years.... do you mean 'dated' as in its design? because features and capability wise, i think it still holds its own

if the OP wants a sleeker look, he might consider the k810i which is like a redesigned version of the k800i, where they improved on the design of the camera lens cover and bump

nice pic btw

Dated as in features. No HSDPA, awful joystick mechanism, there are hundreds of phones out which do exactly what it does or even better. It's saving grace is indeed its awesome camera.

A great affordable camera phone. One of the last great phones Sony Ericsson made before they started churning out a load of duds like the K850i, W880i etc.

A bit chunky for my liking but all in all it is reliable, has a good camera and has all the features you would need.

Or the K750i? That thing is built like a tank. Must have had mine about 3 years now and it still runs great. My girlfriend uses her K800i pretty much 24/7 and occasionally chucks it into her bag or onto her desk. Try doing the same with a W880i and the phone will turn off, tap the screen and it will have to be sent off for repair.
