Camera Taking Fuzzy Pics At Night?
_the_don
31-12-2008
What could be the issue here? If I set the camera to either Night,Dusk or Dawn the photos come out all fussy, and thats with the camera on a tripod and image stabilisation on, if I turn it off its worse.

Any ideas?

It sounds to me you've not focussed the camera properly before taking the photo. What do you mean by 'fuzzy' - can you post an example?

From your picture, you seem to have what is called 'camera shake', which is caused when you move the camera whilst it is taking a photograph.

You may not notice it, but the camera may move a little when you press the shutter release button - and this appears to be reflected in the image.

I'd suggest that you make sure that the tripod is placed on a firm surface, and that the camera is securely attached. I would also try and use the self-timer so you can simply just hit the shutter release to 'arm' and a few seconds later once you have moved away from the camera, it should take your picture without the shakes.

take a deep breath, then take the pic while slowly breathing out (sniper-style!)

I always completely breathe out before taking my shots (camera or not)

Cheers for the help, I'll try it out and see how I get on.

Having read and reread what you wrote I can see two problems. I recall reading that when using a tripod with a digital camera it is recommended to turn image stabilisation OFF.

Secondly I'd suggest trying the self timer if your camera has one. I have found, having read various advice given on photographic websites that doing both of the above gives some brilliant images.

Well it worked

So to take night shots a tripod is essential, Turn stabilisation off and set the self timer.

Yes, if you can post some pics for comarison. I got my tripod from amazon a couple of years ago for under a tenner and it's been one of my best purchases even if it is one of the simplest !

In fact used this set up to take video and photos from the castle and fireworks.

Here's the pic I took last night, A hell of alot better than my previous attempt. The tripod is just a little cheap one that was in Lidl one week, it does the job. The camera is a little 10mp Samsung, I want to buy a Nikon D40 but think I would need to master a little point and shoot to start of with.

Is it the Samsung S1065 by any chance? I got one of these today and I haven't really got setting it up, but the test pictures I took and test video I made seemed to be in brilliant quality. Do you put it on auto or do you have specific settings set for it? Would you mind sharing those settings if you have them to see if I can get my pictures looking the best? I got mine from Argos using a gift card I got ages ago and never used. It was down to £68 and I got another £5 off, so a very very good digital camera for £63, and it does a hell of a lot more and better quality than a £90 HP 7MP camera I got last year.

You go to scenes and in there you toggle through, there are loads of scenes, Sunset,Dawn,Children,Night etc, its fairly straight forward once you get on to it.
