In today’s Daily Star
Old Man 43

I says that the regeneration of Doctor 10 is going to be heartbreaking. Apparently we will be reaching for our hankies. Anyone got any ideas.

The one I think would be good is that The Doctor find’s that his granddaughter is still alive and that The Doctor has to give up his present version to help her regenerate so causing him to regenerate at the same time.

That's an interesting suggestion.

For it to be heartbreaking I think we have to have at least one past character return: perhaps Jenny, but also maybe Rose or Donna... with SJ, Martha or Jack as other possibilities.

I feel this because to have the Doctor "die" with a companion we've only known for one or perhaps 2 episodes will be less emotionally engaging than the Doctor dying in the presence of someone he loves, and someone who loves him.

I have a 9 year old relative who told me how sad it will be when the doctor regenerates. Didn't realise she makes these 'inside scoops' for the star...

Would make sense if he has to save Donna from melt down by giving up his present regeneration to save her.

That would be excellent. It's hardly a scoop for the Star to say it will be heartbreaking. It would be a total cheat if it wasn't.

I doubt very much it will involve Barbara, a character who'll have been absent as a regular companion from the series for 45 years when he regenerates - and whom he hasn't really seemed to miss.

After all - what are the chances that Corrie, for a really important episode would bring back a character from 1964? None.

Love the idea of Catherine returning and I do hope we see her in the specials - I just have a feeling it will be something or someone else that takes Ten away from us though ..

RTD was saying Ten's last companion will be a older lady -must say that appeals to me -sounds sweet.Someone bossing Ten about and looking after him.

If it is a older companion I can't see that character being a "bridge" to series 5 though ..

You mean Susan?

As to Corrie haven't they just had a character return to the show who hasn't been in it since the 1960's?

Amazing how the Star can comment on the content of scripts that haven't even been written yet. (And going by "The Writer's Tale" he won't even start writing them until past the last minute!)

And such insightful comment too. After all however he goes there'll be lots of heartbroken teenage girls out there.

Yes, Susan of course.

An older lady *could* be Lis Sladen. It wouldn't have the same problems as bringing Rose back, and there's a stronger emotional bond than with Martha and Jack. One advantage of Sarah Jane and Jack is they have their own (on-screen) lives to go back to after an adventure with the Doctor. He can leave them without them going all weepy.

Personally, I think it will be Sarah Jane, if the story is true of course. Seems to make sense to me that she would be with DT for the end...

I've got the feeling that the Donna story isn't finished yet...especially as RTD likes big reunions to accompany finales, and as this is his swansong, and DT's, it's going to be big.

We'll probably get the situation made up like Turn Left, where only Donna can solve an issue - maybe a second Timelord is needed, and she's the only one who's got part timelord inside her, even if she doesn't recall it?

I'm wondering whether RTD may offer Steven Moffat a complete clean slate by dispensing with Martha at the same time. Rose is trapped in a paralell universe so shouldn't be needed (sorry, I love Billie Piper but Rose is bugging me now, she's appearing when she's not required ), but if RTD kills off Martha and rounds off Donna's story with the regeneration then most loose ends are tied up.

As for the older companion...I can't stop thinking of Felicity Kendall in the role for some reason.

I'm hopeing rather than Sarah Jane (who is ok but did see Ten and get a farewell to him in Journey's End) it might be a new Timelady character -someone Ten's equal rather than a companion ..

I'm going to be an utter state when it happens - if it's an older lady could it not be River Song?

The Doctor did say 'time could be rewritten' in response to 'their' timeline.

Yep, Jed Stone. And he was involved in the Tony Gordon (the new Richard Hillman murderous type) storyline which is the biggest one of the show. He was even "killed" in the Christmas episode, which you could argue *is* the biggest episode of the year!

Anyone considered that maybe it just refers to the fact that viewers will find it heartbreaking that David Tennant is leaving?

I would love Sarah Jane to be there as he regenerates, but if bloody Rose is there weeping all over the Doctor as he regenerates it will piss me off. I don't want some overly contrived emotional bullshit. Just have him bloody regenerate!

I got really excited when RTD mentioned the older lady companion. But seriously guys let's stop jerking off thinking it is Susan or some other past female companion. Do we ever learn? How many of our fanw**ky notions have ever come true? It will just be some old bird who he meets in Chiswick or somewhere. Why do I have an image of Anne Reid in my head? (yes I know she's already played a Plasmavore).

Perhaps he'll be on his lonesome with no one else around...

And that would be the most heartbreaking thing that they could ever do.....and it would sum up the 10th Doctor's time.....with all those adventures that he has had....in the end he always ends up alone.....so it is perfect ending!

For Ten to be alone in his final scene would be a rubbish end for Ten imo where would the beautiful last words come from -where would we find the emotion and drama in what would be David and RTD's last words on the show .

If they were to bring anyone back it should be Catherine Tate as Donna. No matter how poignant it was, her ending is STILL quite cruel, especially with them cutting out her reaction to the Tardis dematerializing. At one moment she was the most important woman in the universe and she will never know.

oh god that would be heartbreaking

Reminds me of the final scene from Journey's End when he's walking round the TARDIS... I always imagine he's thinking how full it was just hours before when he had his "family" with him.
