N96 or Pixon

Have been a samsung user for years but recently got a Nokia N96..quality phone and features but something about it niggles me, though I can't explain what.

I am considering swapping this for a Samsung Pixon, does anybody have any thoughts.

I read that the Pixon doesn't support Wi-Fi but I am not exactly sure what this means, as the phone still has the internet, so not sure what disadvantage if any.

any thoughts on this ?

Have you considered the Samsung i8510 Primera instead. It has the 8MP snapper like the pixon but runs symbian like an N96 - all features are present including 3.5G internet and WiFi.

to be honest, I'm pretty clueless with the 'technology' side of things,,,,I don't know what the difference is between things like symbian, 3g, wi-fi etc

Symbian is the phones operating system, like Windows is on the computer.

3G is the high speed cellular network and Wi-Fi is usually a local wireless network where you can set to share your internet in the home, or a lot of places like Airports and Coffee Shops. The advantage of Wi-Fi is that it is usually faster and uses less battery, plus you can get it in really rural areas with a broadband connection and wireless router (3G coverage is still limited to urban areas). However, the disadvantage is that it is not everywhere, well neither is 3G but you can still surf the internet on your phone using 2G albeit at a slower speed. Wi-Fi is nice to have but not essential if you do not have Wi-Fi in your home or regularly use Wi-Fi hotspots such as Libraries, Coffee Shops etc. Just think as Wi-Fi as a computer network minus the wires.

Basically you suggested moving from the Nokia N96 to a Samsung Pixon. The phone I suggested has pretty much all the features of the N96 except the mobile tv tuner (which doesn't work in this country yet anyway). It also has the same calibre of specification as the Pixon where they share the same features e.g. they both have an 8MP camera.

Features-wise, the phone I suggested is better. The main difference now is that the Pixon is touchscreen whereas the i8510 is not. Also i8510 only sold by carphone warehouse in the UK.

Do remember that these are the premier smartphones of the moment, without disrespect, I would suggest reconsidering if such a high end phone is value for you as if you don't understand the capabilities, you might not be able to make full use of it.
