My son got this for christmas so only used it a few days.

Put it in the pocket of his jeans and when he got it out a bit later, the screen had cracked, not the glass screen but the lcd beneath it.

Can anyone suggest a fix?

I took it back to the Orange shop where I bought it but they won't replace it as they say its not a manufacturer fault.

It must have had some force to crack.

It will need a brand new screen fitting, you'll have to pay. Ring round a few local phone shops (not Orange, Phones4u etc) such as independent ones on street corners.

It's either that or buy a new phone...

It seems unusual for the screen to crack but not the glass?

probably due to pressure damage (rather than impact damage), with the LCD more vulnerable to pressure stress.... the jeans pocket must have been tight, or when he kneels or sits down or something, thus increasing the pressure on the screen beyond what the LCD will tolerate.

OP... it won't normally be covered by warranty, but you could contact LG and see how much they would charge to repair it with a replacement screen.

Unless you have mobile phone insurance... Or any chance your home insurance will cover it?

The touchscreen layer is obviously more flexible than the underlying LCD and so the LCD is more likely to be damaged by the stresses of a jeans pocket. Phones often have a warning about putting them in pockets, so I doubt any repair would be free.

Im not convinced by touch screen phones.

I prefer buttons

Maybe you could by a broken one from ebay and repair it yourself?

some people sell phones for spare parts - worth a try.

I prefer a phone with keys. So much quicker to use.

Every touchscreen phone I've seen tells you to keep it in a case and not to put it unprotected in a (non-jacket) pocket.

Same happened to my sons. Had the phone about a month. He is careful with his phones. Last one a flip phone lasted over 18 months. If it isn't safe in a front pocket of a pair of jeans which aren't tight what else is he to do with it!!!!!!!

Agreed. I carry my flip in jeans pocket (Motorola Razr V6 Maxx) and its been fine.

Its these new touch screen phones with the problem.. for some reason the LCD (and glass as well) seems to be weaker. I know a few people who have cracked the glass / lcd and dont know how it happened.

They dont make em like they used to!

It can't be much of a surprise to find that a large piece of glass is more fragile than the case of a phone. That's why touchscreens come with instructions not put them in pockets and to use a case.

Think about what happens to a trouser pocket when you move around or sit down. It's obviously not the place to put an expensive device.

I have checked through all the booklets given with the phone.................not mentioned at all that it is a phone that you can't keep in a trouser pocket nor does it recommend using a case!
