Just purchased an ipod touch 16GB a couple of days ago.

The laptop i currently use for burning & ripping (which has my itunes installed too) is crap & only has 512 memory so i wouldn't want to keep all the tracks on it, even if i could.

Want to keep on top of my ripping my deleting the tracks after i've ripped them from my CD's. I've got around 700 tracks to go at.

Now, much to my amusement obviously, i ripped a few cd's to my ipod then deleted them after ripping & now these tunes have dissapeared from my ipod too.

I intend to purchase a new laptop in the next few days for my Djing with at least 250GB memory & 3GB hard drive, so should i just wait until i get that before i start putting music in my ipod or purchase an external hard drive???

buying an external hard drive and backing up your itunes is a good idea and external hard drives fairly cheap now

I've heard that external hd's are from around £30 at Tesco. Don't know what size though. I'll look.

I've got a 2GB pen drive but i don't suppose that will be big enough for around 600 songs??

Also, switching from autosynch to manual synch will help with stopping me from wiping my ipod & laptop at the same time??

If your iPod is set to automatically sync then it will delete the songs which you deleted from iTunes. Why wouldn't it?

Ok, thanks for your replies.
Now found out that it's happened with my fiancee's ipod shuffle too which is inevitable isn't it.
Oh well, you live & learn don't ya?!

I'll set it to manual synch.
