Firstly thanks for the PMs. Nice to know that you enjoy the anorak side of Strictly.

I've been asked to publish the top five scores for each dance. I would have added it to the End of Series Stats but that's taken on a life of it's own!

So here's the five highest scores for each dance. The numbers afterwards is the series and week (for example 4-6 is series 4 week 6...and F is for final). And of course they don't include Specials.

For the person that asked for the averages for each professional, it's not something I've designed my spreadsheets to do. It'll take a bit of time but I'll get around to it. Great idea though!

So...in no particular order...

Thanks for the list Quizmike. It is interesting to see how many times Gethin is featured despite being knocked out in the semis (which should have been the final!)

I'd forgotten that Gethin's jive is only 2nd to Jill's! And that Jill and Emma had the highest paso's until Austin...

Great list, and nice to see it unskewed by the Christmas special scores.

Thank you so much Quizmike. This makes it much easier to compare dances.

I had a look at Zoe's Tango a few weeks ago and, though I loved it at the time, I saw some really quite serious problems with it so I admit I'm surprised it got two tens.

Interesting to see the all-female cha cha cha and the all-male salsa there!

Too right - Chachacha - the male celebs usually do a pretty awful job of this dance. Either so weirdly camp they might as well be wearing a pink tent, or sort of painfully embarrassed and blocky - or just horribly crap like JS.

To be fair, the female ones ain't great either - at least from S4 onwards - I guess Rachel's is probably the one I have liked the best (at least she tries to straighten her legs), but even then, can see mistakes.

You're right Cami - it's an easy dance to do badly and hard to do well for anyone. And I too liked Rachel's the best but don't think it deserved a 10 from Bruno.

Goodness I felt NOBLE admitting that!

It's been the male celebs' first dance for at least the last three series, which is at least some form of explanation.

It is a good excuse, but now I feel a bit mean for chuckling over the images of male celebs failing miserably to produce good ChaChas.

Nah I don't

Now I'm trying to think of terrible - or just embarrassing Salsa' from the girls - Oh no Cherie's Salsa I so wanted her to do well and it was terrible, like a frantic middle aged mum desperately trying to be cool at her teenager's party.

The bottom 15 scores for cha cha are all men, and 13 of the bottom 14 salsa scores are women.

Are the bottom scores you mention from the first week of the male/female split? Or are people getting low scores further in the comp too? (or is that not on your spreadsheet? )

The bottom 15 cha cha scores are all week 1 (except John Sergeant and Kenny Logan).

However the bottom salsa scores are very mixed. Series 4 is week 5, Series 5 is week 6, and series 6 is both week 2 and week 7.

Ah - so the ladies have even less excuse for being so rubbish in the Salsa. It's also a very led dance, or so I've read, so they haven't got that excuse either.

Are the male pro's a bit rubbish at it?

So the boys' low scores are explained by the point in the competition but it seems the girls, maybe, struggle to let loose enough to produce a stellar salsa?

Most pros have their dance partners on the show though, so you'd think both sides of the partnership would be up to scratch. By that I mean if the male pros are a bit rubbish, their lady pros probably would be too.

On the subject of the cha cha, here's the top few male dancers (purely to make some forumites smile)...

Austin Healey 35 6-10
Colin Jackson 32 3-1
Aled Jones 29 2-1
Bill Turnbull 29 3-1
Tom Chambers 28 6-1
Mark Ramprakash 27 4-1
Ray Fearon 27 4-1
Spoony 27 4-1

The only girl in the salsa top ten is Alesha at number 8.

True.

This is interesting. I can understand, because of its position in the competition, and because of the nature of the dance, why the ChaCha is low scoring for the men. But I can't think of a straightforward explanation as to why the ladies are so rubbish at the Salsa. Mind I've never danced the Salsa so don't really understand why it is hard.

Maybe you're right - they 'cant let go' or something - needs a bit of thought though.

When I look at that, what I remember most is various shimmys! The girls don't really do that as much - or with such gusto - breasts I suppose - that would explain 'not being able to let go' a little.

The ranking in the dances, especially at the top seems fairly fair. Listed like this does make it all easier to see. Thanks again Quizmike.

I would argue about the Quickstep and the ChaChaCha perhaps.

I remember Colin's quickstep as absolutely incredibly wonderful and can remember a lot of the dance. I can hardly remember Lisa's at all. Perhaps I'm just horribly biased. What does anybody else think?

Rather gives the lie to the suggestion that Erin is a crap teacher/choreographer of all Latin dances as has been suggested on another thread today. She seems to have done a better job with two of her celebs, albeit the better ones, in this dance at least than anyone else.

So would I. There is no way for me that Lisa should have got 40 for either dance. I liked both but they were not the best by a long shot.

I know this has been said many times on the forum but the marking in Series 6 was ridiculous (for all of the top dancers).

Erin's a great teacher - I think a lot of people think that. even though Latin isn't her strength. All credit to her for her success here though.
