I have just bought a new sony ericsson 580i, nice phone really pleased with it, I just want to know how I find out the memory status for my text messages, photos, contacts etc? (text messages espeically how many the phone holds) I'd imagine it's under the same menu as other sony phones but I can't find it anywhere?

Menu > Settings > General > Phone Status will tell you how much free memory you have

yes the W580i is a very nice phone but you really want a good size M2 memory card for it, as the onboard phone memory is only 12mb which is not really adequate.

Play.com are selling a 4gb M2 card for less than a tenner with free delivery (link)

Thank you! Is there anyway to get a message status though like my old samsung phone would show me how many messages I had to the 300 text message limit?

Thanks for the memory card tip, i'll take a look!

i don't think there is... although i could be wrong despite being an owner of SE phones for years, lol

however it will pop up a warning when your memory capacity is nearing full, to prompt you to delete stuff

definitely get that memory card ... 12 mb is nowhere near adequate, especially with it being a walkman phone so you will want to put your music onto it. 12mb won't even hold more than a couple of MP3 tracks... and that's on top of memory space for your messages, pictures, themes, etc.

btw, i think SE officially says it supports max 2gb card - but in fact it will even take a 8gb card (people that have the 580i have confirmed this on other phone forums).... it's just that SE have only officially tested it up to 2gb, so they can't officially guarantee it with any bigger than that... 4gb seems a good compromise though and @ £9.49 on Play you'd be silly not to get it

On my C905 if you go on settings then onto time & cost it will show you how many texts you have sent hope this helps but you need to clear it once a month otherwise it will keep going

oh just had a thought...

if you download the excellent freeware MyPhoneExplorer to synchronise with your SE phone to backup your phone messages and contacts etc (always a good idea!),

the program tells you the memory status of your messages and contacts (used/free/total memory)...

View > Other > Memory Status

and huzzah!
