Given digital penetration levels these days (Freeview, Freesat, Virgin and Sky) I do wonder how long BBC 2 can justify simply duplicating CBBC and CBeebies programmes for 5 hours each morning (even if not simulcast) to the exclusion of other programming as it is. I assume it is cheaper but given the level of access to CBBC and CBeebies these days duplicating that output on BBC 2 does seem to be a disservice to the wider audience. More so if this happens at Christmas when a lot more people are home during the day.

Last year CBBC and CBeebies programmes ran only until 0830 on BBC2 over the holidays and programmes for a wider audience then ran from 0830 until 0400. I hope we get the same this year. BBC2 offered quite a reasonable Christmas holiday daytime schedule last year.

Yes I agree about CBBC/CBeebies. What I find strange, is that BBC One used to show all CBBC programming in the mornings up until 2000 and then suddenly from 2001 the BBC decided to switch it all over to BBC Two instead and ever since CBBC has remained on BBC Two every morning, apart from recent Christmas's when, as you say CBBC ended at 8.30am on BBC Two and moved to BBC One at 9.00am, leaving most of the morning schedule on BBC Two free to show something else.

What I mean is, it would be better to keep CBBC completely on BBC One from say 6am and put Breakfast on BBC Two *just for Christmas* and then switch it all back to normal from say 4th or 5th January 2010. Surely this would be better and this way there would be no interuptions.

I agree about BBC Two being better last Christmas. They shown a few decent programmes last year along with regular morning films which I enjoyed and brought back memories of what BBC Two always used to do with their morning schedule, something I really miss nowadays.

Anyway, this time tomorrow we will have a rough idea what BBC Two and the other terrestrial channels have planned for the Christmas fortnight. I just hope there is a wide selection of festive films this year, along with as I mentioned in an earlier post, 'It's a Wonderful Life' and the original 1951 version of 'Scrooge' to name a couple of great films. Although I'm not holding my breath on the provisional schedules tomorrow having exact film titles. Much of the schedule is likely to be filled with TBA's. But if there is a 'FILM TBA' in a 9am slot on BBC Two, then there will be some hope to cling on to

They used to put Breakfast on BBC Two "just for Christmas" up until labout 5 years ago.

They had to move it to BBC1 as BBC2 Digital has no regional variations in England. So People where getting BBC London News during Breakfast.

BBC2 then showed CBeebies 6-9am with CBBC on BBC1 9-11am

In recent years however, BBC2 has finished CBeebies at 8.30am. But CBBC has not started on BBC1 until 9- thus a half hour gap has been created for some unkown reason.

Infact It has been hit-and-miss as to whether BBC1 has shown any CBBC in the mornings over the Christmas break.

Also, After Switchover the BBC Trust says that BBC1 and 2 will continue to show CBBC as its part of their remit.

Ominously, the BBC One Wales listings for that week have TBAs on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 7.30pm, where EastEnders and Big Top should be. Hopefully BBC Wales are not planning to inflict some horrific regional programme on their viewers in those slots!

Looking at digiguide - you were absolutely right ! No change to the dismal morning schedules on BBC1 from mon 21st to wed 23rd. Although there is a lot of tba activity from 3.30pm (ish) which could mean the odd film thrown in, I do think its a poor showing to go with cash in the attic et al during the week where the kids will be off school.

I predict theBill will air Tuesday or Wednesday that week, as both days at TBA @ 9pm, and Thursday @ 9pm has been scheduled

On Christmas Eve, BBC HD have Gavin & Stacey at 9-9.30pm, suggesting that is the slot the penultimate episode will get on BBC1.

Shrek the Halls has a late night BBC3 repeat on Christmas Eve, so that is expected to air in an early evening slot on BBC1 the same day.

ITV's early draw-ups are particularly uninspiring.

Are the provisional listings definitely going to be in any other newspapers tomorrow other than The Sun?

Yes, absolutely no effort made by the BBC whatsoever up until Christmas Eve. In fact, to add further insult, alongside BBC One's regular schedule of Homes Under the Hammer, Cash in the Attic and Bargain Hunt, the BBC have the cheek to throw similiar programmes on BBC Two as well with Heir Hunters, Escape to the Country, Flog (to death!) It! and surprise surprise Animal Park. Looking at them schedules, you'd never have thought Christmas was just a few days away!

Can you all please email the head of BBC One scheduling
George Dixon and complain about this dire scheduling of the same shows in holiday time..

It was the same at Easter and May/Aug bank holidays- the same SH!T you get every morning. Ive emailed him loads of times about this but I need you all to back me up his email

I totally agree. It would seem that Christmas, like Easter is becoming more of a television inconvenience than an important festival. If you dare to complain to the BBC (I am not a BBC-hater) you will no doubt get a jumped up scheduler (who has no life experience at all but loves his ego)say "Our research shows that these programmes prove very popular and we take our viewers comments very seriously and we endeavour to provide top quality programmes to all our viewers because we feel that is what our viewers want." And then he'll totally forget about all that claptrap, take no notice at all at what viewers want and just do what he wants anyway.

This was proved at the August Bank Holiday when he went on Points of View and said he had received complaints about the "same" weekday programmes being shown on previous Bank holidays and said he was preparing a more "compromised" schedule for the forthcoming August Holiday. What did we get? The same as we had for the previous Bank Holidays.

It is the executives at the BBC who are to blame. Mind you, in fairness, this year most firms will not be finishing for Christmas until 4pm on 23rd December, so technically it is a normal working week until then.

Well put, Wizzywick, particularly the phrase "a television inconvenience".

No need for the "in fairness" point, though. So what if it's a normal working week for many ? It's Christmas week. (The change of channel ident should signify something.)

Suggesting it could be outside primetime on Christmas Eve BBC1.

6.10 Film: Shrek 1/2/3
7.45 My Family
9.00 Gavin & Stacey
9.30 Have I Got News For You
10.00 Victoria Wood's Mid-Life Christmas

I take your point, and while I think the schedulers are providing mediocre programmes leading up to Christmas, i was implying that their way of thinking was that it was a normal working week until Christmas Eve so let's not bother. I guess I didn't make my sarcasm clear. Apologies.

In 2004, when Christmas Eve was on a Friday, the BBC1 daytime schedules went like this:

MONDAY DECEMBER 20th

12.30 Keeping Up Appearances
1.00 News

12.30 Keeping Up Appearances
1.00 News

2.15 FILM: Muppet Treasure Island
3.45 FILM: Remember The Titans
5.30 Open All Hours
(Evening schedule normal)

WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 22nd

11.05am FILM: Prince Valiant (part of CBBC from 9.00am)
12.30 Keeping Up Appearances
1.00 News
1.45 Cash In the Attic
