Perhaps it wasn't Christmassy enough? Or maybe some people with strong religious views didn't think it appropriate? Good question fugitive! The cover is here:

Because of magic wizardry and witches etc not having anything to do with Christmas, that and the cover not being a traditional Christmas one.

I think every year the Christmas TV and Radio Times should always have father christmas on the front cover. After all, it's only for once a year

Early TV Times double issues were actually divided into "two weekly issues".

This meant you got two "covers", the one and the front then after the first week's listings another "cover" in the middle before the 2nd week's programmes.

I see the Radio Times is getting a makeover, I wonder what the changes will be :

From www.radiotimes.com

What's even better than RT? Our great new look RT, that's what, complete with exclusives on Doctor Who, Skellig, Joanna Lumley in Lewis and a new column featuring Sir Michael Parkinson, PLUS an Easter food special. Unmissable, unbeatable… and on sale Tuesday 7 April!

I hope they don't spoil it, sometimes things get ruined in the name of progress!

I hope the new look doenst mean watering down on the listings pages as in some cheaper tv magazines.

And I hope we still get the decorative borders for Easter Sat/Sun/Mon etc

A special mention and thanks to Phil Hackett for the Decorative Good Friday borders this year!!

Easter week seems to be a tradition of new look RT. although the past few "new look" have concentrated on the features pages... ot just adding extra listings pages

the listings pages themselves have retained the same basic design for years

and it was Nicholas Brett who introducedthe colour listings pages (Red for Saturday, Blue for Sunday etc) back in Christmas 1990!!!

So do I!! I love the borders at Easter, Christmas and New Year!

There is a nice border for the listings for Good Friday in the Total TV Guide which is great to see.
Does anyone remember when the TV guides used to carry over Good Fridays listings into the Easter issue, so you'd get an 8 day TV guide instead of 7? I have a couple of old TV Times when this has happened. They don't do it anymore though.

Yes I remember when Good Friday listings used to appear in the following week's Easter edition, until the mid 80's I think before that was scrapped. But I seem to recall they were usually in a much abbreviated version? There also used to be a practice whereby if the Xmas issue was 18-31 December then New Years' Day would often appear in that issue too, making it effectively a 15-day guide.

The current Radio Times has a Good Friday border, but it's a bit dark and doomy! No doubt next week's will be more festive. I can't remember whether the borders will only appear on Easter Sunday and Monday, or whether Saturday also has one.

Normally only Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday have decorative borders. Until just a few years ago all the May and August Bank Holidays used to have decorative borders too but they seem to have now been scrapped. I'm guessing that this may be a printing logistics issue though as perhaps these aren't necessarily bank holidays outside of England?

I'd forgotten about the bank holidays. Some of them certainly differ in Scotland, and perhaps elsewhere too.

According to The Radio Times Story this was introduced in the June 2nd edition in 1990 along with a new larger masthead and was the first full-colour Radio Times

Well I've heard on another forum that the promotional push for David Tennant's regeneration story this Christmas for Doctor Who will be massive. I wouldn't be shocked if Doctor Who made the cover this Christmas and was the subject of the BBC1 ident. But that's just a guess on my part.

That's really interesting and sounds very plausible. As an aside, does anyone know how the four Doctor Who specials are being split up? Is it three through the year with one at Christmas, or two during the year and one on Christmas Day and one on New Year's Day? I've heard both scenarios mentioned.
