There was a news item (in the cult section) on this website covering Russell T Davies interview with the times. He only mentioned 3 episodes - one in November (maybe tied to Children in Need night?) and a concluding 2 part story over Xmas and New Year. I assumed 4 specials - one last week, the one in November (presume 'Waters of Mars') and then the big 2 part finale at Xmas. Could be wrong though.

One thing - hope the xmas Dr Who episode(s) have the xmassy feel of previous years - I love the xmas specials.

Unless perhaps the new incumbent is working alongside her to become familiar with the job, and has been involved in the new look?

Sorry to hear Gill is going though, I wonder what it will mean for the Christmas edition??

The best editor the Radio Times ever had was Nicholas Brett it's highly unlikely but I'd love him to return.

Just a small point, the Radio Times covers for 1981 and 1982 are the wrong way round!

how sad that for the 3rd year running they have failed to put ""Easter Issue" on the front of the Easter week RT. Or anything remotley associated with Easter.

(the Eater food pullout doesnt count)

I will have to email them about this. And about the soul-less new look.

I remember they used to put "Holy Week Issue" and "May Day Holiday Issue" on the front in the 80's

Maybe the new Editor will bring back some of RT's traditions

I agree about the Easter cover etc. The last time RT had an Easter cover was when "The Tale of the Tamworth Two" was scheduled on Easter Monday. Why on earth has this never been repeated as an afternoon bank holiday show instead of endless Cash in the Attic. And another excellent animal drama Pride? Anyway, back on topic, when is Gill leaving and more importantly when does the new editor take over?

The only thing I've read is that Gill will be leaving "in the summer"

Love the web site - great work. It does tell me that Christmas TV wasn't always as good as I remember it being! 1981... Dallas on Christmas Day!

Well i rang RT today and asked them why they didnt put "Easter Week Issue" on the cover any more

The guy I spoke said he wasnt sure, but that the TV channels do very little over Easter that theres not much to make a fanfare about. But he would pass my comments on to the relevant peolpe.

Also, I told him that the new-look was a backward step and that RT has lost too much colour and character. He said any susequent changes would not take place for at least 10 weeks, and that they will probably have a new Editor by then who may want to put his/her own stamp on RT.

Anyway, I will ring RT next March, to make sure they put a big strap on the front on next Easters Issue!!

Claire's dad, your website is a fab, entertaining trip down memory lane. You say however, that in 2004, the showing of the Harry Potter film received it's BBC unique showing. They did show it again at 4.00pm Christmas Eve 2005. But after that, it went to ITV and has been shown by ITV since. I have also listings for Christmas 1978 and Christmas 1979. If you would like them let me know. I will reveal though that in 1978 The Sound Of Music received it's British television premiere at 4.20pm on BBC1 on Christmas Day!

Cheers. I've updated the website.

I would be interested if you could send me the listings for 1978 & 1979. Thanks a lot.

I am looking for a box that my missus has "put away" containing my TV listings and such like for the years 1978 and 1979. I will let you know when she tells me where they are! Can I get your email address and forward them to you?

I've done a few more updates to my website.

Looking back at the old TV magazines it's interesting to note how originally when 26th December fell on a Sunday then this was known as "Christmas Sunday" and the 27th December was "Boxing Day".

But this seemed to change in 1999 so that we no longer have Christmas Sunday and this became Boxing day, anyone know why?

Wikipedia says "The last year December 26 was called Christmas Sunday in the United Kingdom and Canada, was in 1993. The next time the date fell on a Sunday (1999), it was known as Boxing Day."

There's some explanations as to why at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxing_Day
