Intelligence, principles and the courage to stand up for what he believes in. What a man!

The fact that I share most of his political views may also be relevant.

I hope people get to see that side of him, rather than the preconceived ideas they had prior to his entry to teh house.

I liked the way he dealt with Verne. No-nonsense, caring but non-patronising. Others might not have managed so well.

Tommy News From The Daily Record.

Exclusive: I told Tommy Sheridan to speak with English accent in Celebrity BB, reveals wife Gail

Jan 5 2009 By Annie Brown

GAIL Sheridan has told how she warned husband Tommy to speak with an English accent on Celebrity Big Brother - so he could be understood.

But the former MSP ignored her advice - and immediately paid the price.

La Toya Jackson - sister of troubled superstar Michael - has already admitted she doesn't have a clue what he's talking about.

She even asked former weathergirl Ulrika Jonsson: "Do you understand him?"

Now the firebrand politician has been forced to "modify" his west of Scotland accent.

Yesterday, Gail told the Record how she and sister Gillian were hooked on the show - but confessed that she had to watch the opening night from behind a cushion.

She said: "That first night he went in, he had that big voice. I said to Gillian, 'Oh, my God, listen to that'. He is really loud.

"We told him he would need to anglify his voice, not just for LaToya, wee Verne and Coolio but the rest too.

"I think that's part of why he has been loud because he's doing that thing you do on holiday, shouting and pronouncing words slowly to make himself understood."

Gail said she was gripped by nerves on the night Tommy entered the Big Brother house - but the former MSP took it all in his stride.

Gail said: "Tommy was as cool as a cucumber. There wasn't a flicker from him but my heart was in my mouth. I was so nervous."

As a diehard BB fan, she knew that as a politician, he was bound to get booed and warned Tommy that it was inevitable.

She said: "That didn't bother me. Pretty much everyone gets booed.

"Tommy was totally prepared for all of that."

She believes Tommy's stints in prison for his protest activities will be a huge help to him.

And she said: "The difference is that this time, he's being imprisoned with celebrities instead of crooks and in a way you have to ask which lot you would rather be locked up with.

"I don't think confinement will bother Tommy too much. He'll keep busy with the gym and he likes talking.

"Some of them might not be as comfortable chatting all the time."

And unlike the rest of the celebrities, Tommy won't be floundering without the luxury of a private chef to cater to his every whim.

Air stewardess Gail said: "I can't cook and Tommy gets the same guff from me week in and week out.

"Nothing could be as bad as the food I give him but the fact that he has Coolio making all these amazing dishes, he'll be over the moon."

And she says he will have a higher tolerance when it comes to the constant gibbering of the women in the house.

Gail said: "He's been living with me all these years and I talk constantly.

My sister and my friends are always talking so he won't struggle with that.

"He's used to us nipping at him, so the whole thing will be a rest for him."

Gail celebrated her 45th birthday yesterday without her man.

She admitted: "It was a bit of a bummer not having him to go out and celebrate with but he left me a soppy card."

And she is convinced it won't be long before he is home, agreeing with the verdict of the bookies that he will be one of the first out.

She said: "He's not in it to win it. He didn't think in a month of Sundays he was every going to win it.

"He has already said he is anti-royalist, he's Scottish and socialist, so there is no way the English will vote for him."

The first nominations are in the hands of house leader Terry Christian, who likes Tommy, but Gail believes that still might not save him.

She added: "A lot of people are saying that Terry will keep him in because they get on but that would be too easy.

"Terry might think of getting rid of Tommy because he knows that eviction wouldn't bother him."

When it comes to the other celebrities, she can't see why they wouldn't like Tommy.

Gail went on: "The only thing you wouldn't like about Tommy is his politics, if you don't agree with them.

"The only other thing that might get on people's nerves is that he's so loud. But that's too bad, he's a Glaswegian man. He's certainly not offensive. He won't even swear. People might think he's a bit boring so get him out for that."

Gai l said she had spoken to George Galloway - another left-wing Scottish politician who went on Celebrity BB - about how he was "driven mad" in the house.

She revealed: "George told me that his plan was to go in and get his political message out there but that after three days, he was obsessing over biscuits.

"The man who had been fighting in the American senate was fighting over a HobNob a few months later. It can drive you crazy."

I liked his stance on calling women 'hos' and 'bitches' too despite others on this forum seeing it as too 'PC'.

Celebrity Big Brother: Tommy Sheridan sends secret signals to wife Gail

Jan 12 2009 By Brian McIver

TOMMY Sheridan's wife Gail was in tears as she watched him send a secret romantic message from the Celebrity Big Brother house.

The former MSP kissed his wedding ring on camera as a signal to his wife back home, - and the Daily Record columnist said she was really touched by his gesture during the live eviction show on Friday.

Tommy, 44, has now been in the house for 10 days and Gail has been glued to her set following his progress in the reality show.

She said: "It was the moment when Davina talks to the house and says, 'You are live on Channel 4, do not swear'.

"In the background, you see him sitting and I was going to burst into tears because he lifted his hand and kissed his wedding ring. I thought it was dead nice.

"My family all saw it. He did it a couple of times and that was a wee signal to me.

"A lot of people were also on the phone telling me that they had seen it and loved it as well. It was like when you see footballers celebrating after a goal, that's exactly what he did."

The politician, studying law at Glasgow University, has told housemate Terry Christian he fears his time on the show might conflict with his studies.

He could miss several mid-term exams depending on how long he stays in the house - and will have to take resits.

Gail said: "All over Christmas, he had to do four essays and knocked his guts out getting them all done in time. They were supposed to be in for January 12.

"I don't know about his exams but he probably thought he might not be still in there for the dates."

In the latest action from the house, Tommy criticised Coolio for calling women "hos" and "bi***es" in his lyrics.

That won him some brownie points with the girls, with Mutya and Tina saying that he was the only one who can trade conversation with the domineering rapper, branding Ben too "wishy washy".

But Tommy had problems keeping up with the health and fitness task, refusing to take part in the recreation of the Call On Me aerobics-style pop video.

He later told Big Brother he would have preferred a game of football.

The housemates passed and won three luxury tokens but had two confiscated when Terry and Tina were caught discussing nominations.

TOMMY Sheridan showed his sensitive side before bed last night, telling his wife and daughter how much he missed and loved them.

"I love you, I love you so much," he said, looking at a picture of the pair.

"We've just been told the eviction will not be Wednesday, but on Friday. So I'm sorry about that."

The 43-year-old continued: "I've had a great time, and met some lovely people.

"I miss you two so much. I just want to be with you, wherever it is."

Celebrity Big Brother: Tommy Sheridan apologises to family - for lasting so long in the house

Jan 15 2009 By Rick Fulton And Brian Mciver

PINING Tommy Sheridan has sent a loving message to his family - and apologised for staying in the Celebrity Big Brother house so long.

The socialist politician spoke to a picture of wife Gail and young daughter Gabrielle and revealed how much he was missing them.

He let his emotions flow after discovering he'll be in the house for at least another few days.

Tommy was convinced he'd be among the first booted out. But he has escaped nomination for eviction again. Tina Malone, Ulrika Jonsson, Michelle Heaton and Mutya Buena are up for the chop tomorrow night.

Although Tommy insists he's had a great time, his extended stay means he has broken a promise to be home within two weeks.

Sitting alone and prayer-like in the boys' bedroom, the former MSP said to the photograph of Gail and Gabrielle: "I love you so much. We've just been told the eviction isn't going to take place on Wednesday, so that means it'll be on January 16.

"And as you know, I said to you I'd be back with you within a fortnight. I hoped I'd be back with you then, so I'm sorry, I really am.

"If I was to be evicted, then I wouldn't mind. I've had a great time, I've met some lovely people and I've fulfilled the contract I signed to the best of my ability.

"But I'm missing you two like crazy and I want to be home.

Well, I don't mean I just want to be home, I want to be with you two, wherever that is."

Yesterday, fears were growing for the health of Mutya after she spent 90 minutes with a doctor.

She felt so poorly she wanted to be taken to hospital, show insiders said.

The former Sugababe took ill after swallowing a sleeping pill.

She said on screen on Tuesday evening: "I've had a stronger tablet tonight and it seems to be working the opposite."

Later, at 11.45pm, away from the cameras, Mutya requested medical attention.

After seeing a doctor, she showed signs of improvement and agreed she didn't need to go to hospital.

A source said: "There is no way Mutya will see the end of the show out unless she dramatically improves her health.

"She's not been herself for days now but took a turn for the worse last night."

Mutya and Michelle have been hitting the pillow early in the house after taking sleeping pills.

Loudmouthed Shameless star Tina is the favourite to be the second housemate evicted.

But the actress reckons she's been "quiet" and "vulnerable".

Tina has peppered almost every sentence with a swearword and been caught chomping on her toenails and squeezing spots.

However, she said: "I've been quiet in here, reserved."

Michelle's tears over Coolio's teasing about her "friendship" with ex-boyband star Ben Adams could see her voted out.

I really like Tommy because he sticks to his principles through and through. He is fair and always sticks up for the underprivileged. His work in the past in helping to abolishing the hated poll tax was exemplary. He cant abide the "americanisms" such as "hoes, bitches" etc and will always say so. He is right and i agree whole heartedly with everything ive heard him say. I totally support Tommy Sheridan !
