Thomson 'Glitching'
IC89
03-01-2009
I bought a thomson a few weeks ago, dont know what brand it is but its a 250GB one and it cost me £99.99 (i know )

anyway, its good, except for when i watch sport or well, anything... when you record, or even if your watching something, the screen seems to glitch... it doesnt make the screen bad, but its almost as if it catches... its a split second but really noticable.

Its really hard to explain... its like the screen jolts, but its not really obvious, its aubtle, but noticable... and when it happens often its really annoying.

This also makes it impossible to record things becuase watching it back is horrific.

This is happening even while i type and watch FA Cup highlights. Setanta does this but that i can understand with the encrypting and that, but terrestrial TV is driving me insane.

Anyone know if this is terminal, or whether (somehow) its solvable?

P.S sorry if my description sounds really vague!

Try turning off your live pause buffer. Does that make any difference?

Thanks, that so far seems to be working, i will rant and rave with an update if it fails to

Why is the pause buffer such a biyatch then... is it just logging the coverage.. and why is it affecting a box like thomson, my old digifusion never glitched when buffering...

Of course the cause could be signal strength, software, hardware, and permutations of the same. Since people get a different selection of snags, and some get none at all, it must indeed be hard for TUTV to sort out but at least they have had plenty of time to do it.

We have DTi6300 250GB ('G1') and hardly notice the picture glitch, buffer always on, but do get the disappearing data after deleting something (apparently also present with some 'G2's) and the odd crash or missed or corrupt recording. The last one we had was vertical stripes, for the first time in 6 months.

Do you have the new style Thomson? (so-called 'G2', and I believe with same hardware as Wharfedale Luxor, but no longer available) and do many people with G2 get the picture glitch?

My own guess is that marginally competent hardware is a major factor. It is not yet quite clear what advantages are offered by G2 boxes, over G1, but perhaps time will tell.

Apologies, I got 'Thomson G2' wrong.

To save further confusion, very few of the squared-off shaped G2s were released, by mistake, and that model was was not the same as the TUTV Vestel boxes which are badged as Wharfedale, Luxor, Sharp and Digihome.

Vestels have different hardware and TUTV software from Thomson 'G1' round shaped boxes DTi6300-16 and -25

PS Think the picture glitch can most usually be just be the TUTV version of picture breakup seen on other boxes when the signal strength is poor
