Hi All

Don't know whether anybody has tried this but I'd like to upload video files to my Foxsat HDR

Anybody know the prefered format? I've tried mpeg4 and avi's with no luck.

I'm transfering from a USB stick, but putting the files in a folder. Is that the problem?

Thanks

There's lots of info on here about this. To summarise to work the video has to be in native .ts format. It also has to have two support files present. Just what is in these files ?Members are trying to decipher this and work out how to create them from a non native .ts file

For any foreign video files (non native) to have a chance of being played on the HDR, they need:

(a) to be transcoded or converted and wrapped in a transport stream (ts) that the HDR can understand.
(b) they need the two HDR index files: .hmt and .nts to accompany and specifically built for the ts file.

Good luck

That would explain why I could not convert Freeview recordings from Vista Media Center in any form that would successfully play on an HDR.

For example I really would like to be able to transfer stuff I have recorded from DAVE onto the HDR.

Maybe the Ethernet functionality will bring more options in the future.

Thanks for both responses. I guess that its a [practically] No then.

Pitty, I'd rather upload than keep my DVD player (with USB which play DivX files) under the box (it means I'll have to dump my Digifuison Freeview PVR, after 3 1/2 year perfect service, due to lack of room)

Even a transport stream achieved off the Humax DTT PVR does not work on the HDR... And another indication that the ts file has to be in the 'HDR format' is that regular software that can process ts files from the 9200T does not work with the ts files off the HDR...

'Ethernet facilities' might be just being able to FTP recordings off the HDR (as in the German iCORD HD.)

If Humax implement or enable (as in the iCORD HD) playing of DivX video files, then we might be able to easily play foreign video on the HDR (just need to encode other formats to DivX.)

I would suggest forgetting trying to load 'foreign' files onto the Foxsat PVR - it's already limited on disc size & any recorded HD content makes it fill up rapidly. I've decided on doing the opposite, namely taking SD programmes off the Foxsat and finding an alternative way to play them. The way I've chosen is to invest in a Zyxel DMA-1000 ethernet media streamer. If there's an SD programme that I've recorded & want to keep, then I now take it off the Foxsat using a portable HDD, put it on the PC upstairs and convert the ts file to mpg (using VLC player). It only takes a minute or so to convert. I can then watch it on the TV downstairs and I don't notice any quality loss from the original recording - I'm quite impressed with this Zyxel streamer.
It would be nice to be able to do this with HD files as well!

I'd love to see DivX support on the HDR - one less box under the TV would be great. I guess Humax would need to pay DivX licensing fees which makes this less likely.

Wouldn't the right to dedoce DivX be part of the chip? http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...&postcount=224

"Nick123 - I've chosen is to invest in a Zyxel DMA-1000 ethernet media streamer."

Does it work? I want to stream from a PC with basic XP on it. Is it easy to navigate the files?

We've just missed PC World flogging it off for £29.97!! Does this mean it's being replaced - or their customers don't like it. The Netgear streamer is £245!!!!

Tell us about your experiences.

Sorry Nick123 - I should have said - tell us more about your experiences with DMA1000.

I notice that on the £29.97!! - out of stock slip - I got from PC World this morning - that it says - "Perfect for streaming your HD content".

I'm surprised that it's that cheap. Are you sure this isn't a mistake? Unlike the Netgear & some other streamers, it isn't wireless (you have to plug in an ethernet cable), but the wireless G system I have doesn't have the bandwidth for HD streaming anyway. The Zyxel also doesn't have any other functionality than streaming content from your PC - no internet radio or abaility to consult emails, like the Netgear streamer. However, the Zyxel works great at what it does - very easy to set up and plays a wide selection of mpg and avi files as well as some - but not all - wmv files. It handles photos and mp3files as well, though for music the software doesn't show the folders & if you haven't arranged your files into playlists it can be difficult to find the track you want. In brief, I'm very happy with it and, yes, it streams HD perfectly as long as you have it hard-wired to your network via an ethernet cable.
If you don't have a wired ethernet cable near your TV then you will have to buy a system that sends the signals through the mains wiring, or else you can buy a cheap wireless access point or wifi relay box to connect the Zyxel wirelessly. If I use the Zyxel wirelessly like this, I can watch a 720p movie on it fine, but the 1080 stuff stutters and for that I would either have to upgrade to Wirleess N or hard-wire it.
