Hi, I bought the Humax Foxsat HDR in the New Year. The remote control dosen't have much of a range on it, it only works for approx 1 metre. Does anyone else suffer from this? It's sooo frustrating having to get off my chair to change channels etc!

Hi If you search the forums, this issue has been discussed in depth.

You need to make sure all the protective films have been removed from the front and inside under the flap

You need to remove the protective film from both the front fascia and the display when the front flap is down.

Then you'll find it's just annoyingly directional rather than absolutely awful

welcome to the forum stephenmy yes there are known issues of the remote control. A few suggestions previously have been to remove the protective plastic from the front of the STB and also one from the inside which by all accounts is very difficult to find(as mention above). Also ensure that the remote eye on the box is pointing towards the operator and finally if you point the remote control slightly upwards the preformance is somewhat improved

If I move 2m from directly in front of the TV, the remote doesnt work on the Humax (but will do with everything else) This suggests to me that the IR receiver on the box is obscured by the flap unless you are directly in front of it.

Thank you all for some very quick replies, I haven't noticed the protective film so I'll check it out now, thanks again

Hey your not kidding about the one inside being hard to find. I would never have removed that without your help. The response has certainly improved (Still not perfect) but as I am pointing at an angle to the box I can live with it now. Thanks again

Films! The inner one is very hard to detect and peel off...

It is sad that the remote on the 9200 is so good but very poor on the HD PVR. If simple things go backwards I worry about the rest.

Not much better with the films off TBH its definetly the remote thats the problem as my Harmony 885 works the Humax even when pointing either side of the unit.

There's a film inside.....Well I'll be blowed. I guess that is why it seems sluggish. No problems with angles and distance though. Just that there isn't much time to input 101 or 10 etc.....

Works fine for me, pointing about 45 degrees away is ok. Both films removed.

Only problem I have with the remote is the Volume and Channel rockers are the other way round from my Panasonic one

As well as removing the films you can always get an IR repeater like this. I have one and the remote seems to to work from anywhere , pointing in any direction.

Next I will mod it to pick its power from the USB on the back of the HDR.

Im using a Harmony 885 and can point it in any direction in the room. But I did notice that the origional was very directional.

I,ve just sold my box to a friend who reported the same problem with the remote. He has since rung me to say that he changed the batteries and it now works perfectly. The batteries I installed were the ones supplied and were fitted just before Xmas!

Someone else may know whether this is what you would expect, but the recognition by my HDR of signals from the original remote control is really seriously affected when the HDR is in sunlight. Drawing the curtains makes a dramatic difference.

yep that figures!! mine struggles if I turn my tv out of standby at the same time as operating the foxy remote, it's as if the tv remote is swamping out the foxsat remote signal.

Has anybody any experience with IR (Infra Red) repeaters?
The Humax HDR's remote is not the best and my wife insist on the boxes being a 90 degrees to my chair, and I thought I was in charge!

I got the repeater in the end, work great now, it only cost me a tenner. It also controls up to 3 devices. I'm happy now

You think the Humax remote is bad? You should try the remote for my Samsung tv!! You have to aim it right at the receiver on the right hand side of the tv for it to work. I programed my Humax remote with the Samsung code and that works the tv a lot better. I am sitting about 4m away from my Humax and the remote seems ok but you do need to point it directly at the box for it to work.

EDIT: I have just tried the rechargable batteries out of my phone handset and it works better with them so maybe just cheap batteries Humax supply.

So how did you detect & remove the inner film?

All I can think of is inserting a half inch drill !

I've had this Humdinger for 4 weeks & didnt see the films.

SWIZZ!
