Remote control issues with Humax Freesat

Nearly a year to discover this but better late than never. I have found that a lamp positioned almost directly over the remote sensor was affecting the reception. Turn the lamp on and the remote is useless, turn it off and works fine. The bulb is a new style low energy one don't know if that made the difference. Moved the lamp now all problems solved

Low energy bulbs emit loads of Infra Red radiation
AFAIK energy saving lamps (compact fluorescent light bulbs) produce mainly UV (UV-B and UV-C) radiation and very little IR - certainly in comparison to a conventional incandescent light bulb which produces huge amounts of IR hence the heat.
IR operates in the wavelength range 1 mm down to 750 nm whereas UV operates from 400 nm down to 10 nm. Visible light lies between 750 nm and 400 nm. A frequency of 940 nm for an IR remote control LED is typical -well into the IR range and way out of the UV range.
The interference of the remote control may well have to do with other frequencies emitted by the lamp.

Low energy bulbs using high frequency control gear emit IR radiation in the same band as used by IR controls. IR is not only heat you won't feel warm from a IR control. Interference is commonly reported with different makes of bulbs causing problems and some not. One recent poster has found that back light used his lcd TV stops his Denon AV amp remote working until his TV has been on for longer than 20min. Presumably the frequency shifts slightly as the bulbs warm up.

There certainly appears to be more problems caused by certain makes and models of bulbs than others. A change of bulb may do the trick rather than resorting to relocating the lamp itself.
The IR signal emitted by a remote control doesn't produce any discernible heat unlike that produced by incandescent light bulbs which is in the thermal range.
