Sky Talk cancelled but line still active - who will I receive a bill from?
Hi,
I am hoping someone can help - sorry for the long post. I have had my Sky Talk service (calls and LR) cancelled as the account is being closed so it can be setup in my own name (the current account holder has moved home). The new account has been setup and the Sky Talk order (on the same telephone number) will be submitted when the new Sky viewing cards are activated on 31st Janurary. The line should be provided by Sky within 10 working days or so I have been told. I was only expecting to be left witout a line for those 10 days (as you give Sky 30 days notice to cancel TV and Talk) but the line was canceled right away as the old account holder is moving home and the cancellation was processed as a home move. So my Sky Talk service was cancelled a couple of days after calling them - the first I realised this was when I looked at the Sky account online. I am still able to make and receive calls but I don't know who will be sending me the bill. Since the line has been cancelled I have been calling Ireland etc (thought my Sky Talk Unlimted - free calls to ROI, was still active until the end of Janurary!) I have phoned BT Retail as I thought that it must automatically go back to them - like a default provider or something but they do not have any account with me on the system and there is no pending orders. Does anyone know who I will be receiving a bill from? I would imagine since I do not have a call plan/contract with whoever it is, I won't exactly be getting cheap calls. Also I have Orange BB does anyone know if this will be affected? I will be migrating this to Sky next month - but I am not migrating it until the line has gone active as Sky BB orders take priority and would be provisioned first - meaning my line would take even longer. Thanks Ryan Some info (not sure how relevant it may be)... 150 I get a message saying: "Sorry you cannot call that number from this line. Please contact your telephone provider using the number given in your documentation". 17070 I get a message saying: "This circuit is defined as [telephone number]". Then goes on to list the BT line test facilities. 1571 First time I dialled since leaving Sky, I got a message saying thats for joining call minder. Now it works as normal. 1471 Works as normal. BT Wholesale ADSL checker I have done a line test and there is no cease orders pending against my number. Sky BB checker Acknowledges I have another another provider and require a MAC. |

I'd open a 18185 account and use that for all calls to keep the costs down.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I have spoken to a few advisers at Sky and it turns out only the wholesale line rental product has been cancelled on my account. I still have an active TV subscription and Sky talk calls package. Apparently there is a computer issue closing accounts if Sky talk is cancelled before TV. I have also phoned BT again they still say they will not be billing me. So I will receive a final bill from Sky for calls but I am still not sure who I will be paying for the actual line or how I am actually able to make calls! |

dial 17070, if all it gives you is a phone number then hangs up your still on sky's line rental. if you have the choice of choosing an option then the line has been migrated back to BT.

Openreachpeep,
Thanks for your reply. I have just dialed 17070 and I receive the message: "This circuit is defined as [telephone number]". Followed by: "BT Line test facilities... please press 1 for ring back...". So I take it BTR are providing the line rental service. Strange they don't have me on the computer. I would rather just pay them whatever it will be for the line for one month until I go active again with Sky, rather than get chased up months down the line. Thanks again. R. |

(temporary out of service). the chances are that the line is probably still in the other persons name. |

if you dial 17070 and eventually get bt line test facilitys it doesnt mean you are a bt retail customer only that the line isnt fully unbundled, in other words even though the previous account holder paid sky for line rental, dialtone was provided by bt wholesale (bt operate) same as bt retail customers .
if sky had fully unbundled the line then you wouldnt get 'bt line test facilitys' on 17070, but sky hasnt got the ability to do this in every exchange but can offer WLR (wholesale line rental) products to its customers in most if not all exchanges, WLR costs sky more in fees to bt than full LLU. If you can still make and receive calls then its probably sky that would charge for those calls, but if the account holder has a quit date from sky then they could argue that any calls after that date are not their responsibility and any call charges should be absorbed by sky. bt retail state the line is nothing to do with them...thats correct ,it isnt. |
