Post Office reconnections and broadband

One question.

If I got the post office to reconnect the phone line would I still be able to get SKY broadband?

I rang SKY last night and they said it has to be BT line but when I argued that it is a BT line just rented from the post office they couldnt really answer. Said 'oh its confusing but you need to be on BT'.

Hi,
Both Sky & The Post Office require a BT compatible line.
The Post Office is not an unbundled provider so taking you line with them is fine - you will still be using the BT line - so Sky BB will be fine.

Cheers,
R.

I thought they could do it as it is technically a BT line.

Would I be able to get the post office to connect it then a couple of months later get sky line rental?

Yes I think so but if you get Post Office to connet the line then you have to take the Post Office phone for at lest 30 days. For I cant see Post Office reconnecting your line if you just going to go with someone else right away. Usally the Post office will ask BT to reconnect your line when you join the post office if your line is off. http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/p...diaId=19300217

if your intention is to use sky why bother with the
post office ???, sky were doing a deal where you
get the line installed but dont take a call package
then sky credit your sky account to the value of the installation charge , so you would end up as a sky
customer (tv/calls/line rental/bb) but they 'pay' to
get the line installed.

I tried this with them and they said they would do it, bloke went away to confirm with his manager and came back and said SKYs favourite phrase.

'Sorry its for New customers only.'

I already have the TV package.

I rang them last night to basically tell them what Ive been told on some boards and sky still said it MUST be a BT line. When I explained he said I might have some trouble once its connected. So I still dont know what to do.

So is a line with the Post Office still not a physical BT line. You just pay your rental to the Post Office and they pay a fee to BT for use of that line ?

If there is a fault on the line isn't it BT (Openreach) who actually come out and fix it ?

According to the post office helpline they are activating a BT line so sky broadband should be OK. I think its a mixture of 1. sky dont want my custom and 2. their contact centre dont know what they are talking about.

If there is a fault, it is openreach who come out.

yes, you can have HomePhone, and SkyBroadband, without any problems whatsoever, in fact, Sky dont need to know who your line rental is with so just order the broadband and make no reference to who your line provider is, if they ask if you have a BT line, simply say yes just, so long as its a non-cable line they dont care.

I'd say you've got someone at Sky who quite frankly cant be bothered to take your order, once you have your line up and running, just order online....cut out the call centre all together

At the end of the day if theres a fault on the line, Post Office log a fault with Openreach, which funny enough is exactly what Sky would do anyway if they were line rental providers. Sounds like you got a pleb on the phone at Sky

I'm having a similar problem to you. I have a bt line that is inactive as we have always used Virgin Media apart from tv, that's with sky. Now I want everything with sky.

BT want £125 to reconnect my BT line. Instead I have phoned the Post Office who are reconnecting me for free.

The bit I'm not sure about, when I get broadband and phone from Sky, will I continue to pay the line rental to the Post Office?

Also, does anyone know how long it will take for the broadband to become active on a new line?

no, all your bill will come from Sky, Sky will take ownership of the line from Post Office, be careful though, Sky may move you onto their LLU Phone service, which means if ever you want to come back to BT, or another provider, you'll possibly face a reconnect fee of £100+

Thats why I stuck with Post Office, the deal is a little bit more than Sky, but i get mobile calls at weekends, and can go back to BT at anytime without a charge...

My sisters now thinking of moving from BT to the Post Office when her BT broadband contract run out in the next few months.
She thinking of taking the home phone with broadband extra packege as she says it may save a few pounds on her bill a month.

My honest opinion is that the HomePhone service is pretty good value for money, but i prefer having my broadband with another provider as the offering from Post Office on BB isnt that great (ie: nothing spectacular)

I use Post Office for Line rental, and O2 for broadband
