BT - What the Hell?

Thanks to a huge cock up by some idiot at BT, I've now lost my phone lines, broadband and BT Vision.

After ringing them up to complain my phoneline wasn't working. I was told that my accounts had been closed. WTF??

They looked into it further only to realise that because my payment was a day late to clear, instead of placing my account on hold until it cleared some numbnuts closed the account.

Now, I've been told that I've got to start all over again! Which means I now get a new phone number and could wait upto two weeks before all my services are working again because they can't do any of that until I receive a final bill, pay it and then start the reorder process.

Complete utter muppets!

Bt are complete t****, I had a complaint with them that was purely their fault, everytime they tried to fix their own mistake they made another one. I ended up with no phoneline for 18 months and only got it resolved by using Otelo, even then Otelo were as much use as a chocolate greenhouse and took 8 months to fix the problem.

I did get a good lump of compensation but I would rather have had my phoneline than any monetry reward.

I would never reccomed either BT or Otelo for anything, and now find myself scowling at any BT or Openreach vans that I pass, juvenile I know but I hate the company with a passion.

OP, your bill must have been pretty late to have gone to the termination of contract stage.

^ I was thinking that also.

I've let bills go unpaid for almost 6 weeks without restriction of service. I've even paid late payement fees, but never been cut off like that.

Hope you get it sorted OP, why can't they give you the number back? Surely it's not been reallocated already

seems a tad unfair - total disconnection for 1 day late? Are they asking you to pay re-connection fees?

I can't understand why they would have disconnected you considering you pay your line rental in advance, only the phone calls are in arrears.

My parents have been with BT for over 30 years but finally got them to switch to DST, as when their november BT bill came in, BT in small print told them they were increasing the monthly payment from £19 to £40!!! Rip off, so they are switching to DST who I am now with after leaving the post office, they/we pay £15.12 month on option 3 for unlimited daytime calls, absolute bargain! I've saved my parents £283.00 and with my own phone £124.00

PS. DST is Direct Save Telecom

1 day late??

For a quaterly bill it goes through about 5 stages of 'follow up' and it takes about 7/8 weeks to go through the whole lot until the contract is cancelled. Between the point in time the first restriction is placed and the account is closed it is about 3 weeks.

Plenty of time for the OP to make the payment.

Small print?

It is in big letters at the bottom of the first page you see when you take it out the envelope.

Yes small print, it's at the bottom of the page.

Not sure that DST is such a bargain, you could have had the same or cheaper from BT. BT is also £15.12 for inclusive daytime calls, or £16.09 if you dont want a rolling contract.

The DST price does not include caller display (£1.75 extra) so will be more expensive than both the BT options if you use this. BT also now includes 0870/0845 numbers in the call packages, chargeable with DST.

It may be at the bottom of the page but in no way is it 'small print'.

With all due respect to you, I;m not going to argue a point with you, I have my parents bill beside me now, it's small print at the bottom, further the font is lighter than the rest of the text on bill.

Please respect that others do not enjoy paying more for their telephone than they need to, my parents both retired need every penny they have and DST has saved them hundreds.

No one likes paying more for anything than they have to, thats why I pointed out that the equivalent package from their previous supplier has the potential to be cheaper.

If DST has saved them 'hundreds' I would suggest that they were not on a similar plan with BT that they are with DST if they have saved 'hundreds' in 2 months.

These kind of remarks are always laughable, especially when the original telco offers a better service, cheaper. All that is happened is your parents didn't check to make sure they were on the best plan.

They did exactly the same to me. And I had to wait nearly a month before they got Vision working again.

I thought the post office tel was the best deal with free weekend calls to mobiles.
