Im looking for a new Sony Ericsson on 02 pay and go to replace my almost 3 year old Sony Ericsson J230i. I got nearly £55 of an upgrade the 02 site says on my account. I have been looked at a few Sony Ericsson in the 02 shop and online for a few weeks now and some of the phones have mixed reviews on the site. I want one with FM radio if I can and under £160 if I can. I dont have to have an MP3 player but if it dose thats fine. Can anyone help.

What are you looking for in a phone?
A phone to make calls/text and listen to FM radio and take photos and one that works anywhere in Europe. Im also planing to go back to Canada(Toronto area) in the next year or two for 8 days and may want to take my mobile with me. Last time I was in Canada in 05 I could not take my mobile the one before the one im using the now as it only worked in western Europe. Mobile I got the now Sony Ericsson J230i is tri band and I know it works in Europe for I have used it in Amsterdam and Dublin but could do with being upgraded as its almost 3 years old. Im not sure whats counties work with tri band and quad band but I see a few mobiles only come with quid band and im guess quid band means it works in Europe.
Thats why I want another one on 02 pay and go and I been 97% happy with the last two Soney Ericsson mobiles on 02 pay and go. It dont have to come with an MP3 player but would not mind if it had one but it dont have to.

Not sure if it will work in Canada but it sounds like the SE K770i could be your thing.

from the selection of SE phones in the O2 shop, I would choose the C702, which comes in just at the top of your budget @ £156.58.

(although you might find it cheaper elsewhere, however i don't know about O2 but usually when buying from the network you have a period of a week or so to exchange it if you are not completely satisfied with your purchase; at least vodafone offers that so i would be surprised if O2 doesn't but you better check with your local O2 shop).

it's quad band
excellent phone memory, expandable with M2
good camera (handy for taking pics on your trip)
mp3 player, with Track ID
FM radio, with RDS
GPS (again useful when going somewhere)
nice touchscreen
splashproof and dust-resistant

Will have a look as I do have nearly £55 off an upgraded 02 pay and go handset. So the 02 site says in my account. K770 no longer on sale with 02. The c702 dose look an ok phone. The c702 dont look touchscreen from the photo on the 02 site. Also you say it got FM radio it dont say that on the 02 site. http://shop.o2.co.uk/mobile_phone/So...Ericsson/page1

That's what it says in my copy of What Mobile magazine for the C702: ."240x320, TFT touchscreen"

.. are they wrong?

It's not a touchscreen in the way of a Renoir or N97, it's just some of the camera controls are worked by pressing certain parts of the screen. SE have been toying with it since the K850 and recently with the c902.

It does have an RDS radio, according to What Mobile mag.

Thanks SuddenImpulse for the explanation about the screen.

It might be a good idea to pop into your local O2 shop to play around with the ones on your shortlist before making your decision what to get

yup it definitely has RDS FM radio

Sony Ericsson website - C702 specifications

but i definitely recommend you play around in the shop with the phones that interest you, before deciding on your purchase.

User reviews are useful (look here or here - you can also read reviews and opinions about other models too, click the relevant links on the left), but inevitably you get mixed reviews, because what's okay for one person may not be okay for someone else, and everyone has different experiences.

hope that helps

cool Darren, also remember to ask the O2 shop if they offer an aftersales trial period within which you can return a newly purchased phone for exchange, if you find that you don't like it after all or change your mind

as i mentioned vodafone gives you 2 weeks to return exchange a phone if you are not completely happy with your purchase, if you bought it direct from them.... So i'd imagine other networks like O2 would do the same as well...

that would give you extra peace of mind that you will be completely satisfied with whatever phone you decide to get
