Problem syncing iphone
Does anyone know how long it should take to sync an iphone 3g? When I do it, it takes somewhere in the region of 3-4 hours and I've only got just over 2gb of music on it, so I dont think it would be that which slows it down. The part which takes the longest is when it says it's backing up my iphone. Are there any soloutions on how to speed this up at all or even skip the backing up part?
Thanks |

I've got the same problem with a 1st Gen 8gb - and I've not put anything substantial on it since last time I synced
![]() My backup has been going for about 4 hours and I'd say it's about 60% complete. It's never ever taken this long and I've had it over a year. Something is seriously wrong here. I've done two things out of the ordinary - not synced for a few weeks and deleted two calendars (to leave me with only one). Have you done anything like that? It might be a common cause? |

I'd say the exact same, it's been on for several hours and is only just at 50 % complete, what a joke. No I wouldn't say I've done anything out of the ordinary with it. Admittedly I have several apps on it but I can't see why this would have such an adverse effect on it. I had heard that the Facebook app can slow it down but I'm not sure how much truth there is to that. It's really frustrating because it really puts me off uploading any music to it because I almost can't be bothered with the ballache of it.

Mine finshed about half an hour after my post last night, then I popped another two songs on it and it synced normally (2 or 3 mins max).
Very odd indeed. |

You can cancel the backup part by clicking the 'x' in the iTunes progress bar iirc. It doesn't cancel the sync, just the backup.

It almost seems to me they've done this intentional to wear down the charge life and make necessary to buy more phones more likely to make people abandon apple altogether though. It's all very bizarre been like this for about 2 months now. I got a wall charger so I didn't overuse the resources of the laptop keep the laptop going longer. Still it seems to sync faster if you sync for a minute unplug start again nuisance but works for me.

if it's taking that long to sync, take it back to the shop. it's obviously an error/fault of some kind.
