I used to switch mine off at the mains but I got annoyed at having to reset the time and date whenever i powered it back up for a quick bit of offline gaming- yes i know I'm incredibly lazy! Though why M$ couldn't just use a small battery to save settings like on PCs...

I switch all of my TV things off when not using them (TV, PS3, 360, Sky), all connected to same plug thanks to an extension lead. The only thing I originally found annoying about the 360 was that it doesn't remember the date or time, it always resets back to 2005 12pm, but luckily when you Sign In on Xbox Live it auto-corrects the date and time because it has to Sync them.

Why would you come onto a thread about switching off your Xbox and start talking about the PS3? I mean really, why? Yawn yawn yawn. I've nothing against the PS3, just people who take threads off topic for no reason other than trying to bait other members. |

woops - i leave EVERYTHING switched on all the time, which might explain why i blew 3 fuses yesterday when i switched the hoover on. all of my "boys toys" kinda stuff are out of the way in an attic conversion, so runs from mains sockets downstairs.
Thinking maybe i need to have a re-shuffle of everything so i can switch off at the mains 1st thing in morning before work. think i may save £££'s like you guys as that 1 attic room uses more lectric than the rest of the house. cheers guys. PS3 switch? what the hell? didnt realise our xbox's had a PS3 switch on them???? stick to the right forums. [nothing against PS3's by the way]. |

I had everything plugged into 1 big extension thing that I always switched off at night, but when I came in from work evrything would be on standby (xbox 360 / ps3 / wii). I then read that in standby that the ps3 used the same amount of power as 6 fridge freezers, xbox,5 & the wii, well didn't really matter, it had more dust on than my ps3. I then decided to unplug everything & only plug in what I was using, when I was using it. On the +side, sold the more polished & slicker system (honestly, give me peace) & only need to worry about 5 fridge freezers & not 11. * Please note, I may have got the number of fridge freezers wrong, but you get the jist. |

I switch my 360, PS3 and Wii off at the plug after use. I see no reason to keep it switched on really (though in fairness, the plug is right under the TV) - the internal clocks all update instantly as I have wireless internet so that's no issue.
My main reason for it though is because of the potential for over-heating and it causing problems. Consoles are a lot more complicated than they used to be and even if they are on stand-by, that doesn't mean they're not working. The Wii for example (and yes, I know it's a 360 thread), if you leave WiiConnect 24 on, might connect to the internet overnight and then spend the whole time flashing until you next switch it on. I just think it's safer to turn them off. |

I have to unplug my Xbox 360 as the power supply interferes with my Digisender that is nearby. I probably would leave it plugged in otherwise. Presumably they interfere with Wi-Fi etc too as they are on the same frequency. Food for thought.

I bought a PS3, I feel I am qualified enough to knock it, so it is not just the poor & the needy that knock it, it was rubbish, hence why I really only come into the "xbox 360" forums, now keeping out the PS3 forums, coz it. wasn't worth the effort. |

hardly rubbish ![]() ![]() and the 360 and the ps3 share most games, the ps3 has bluetooth, its much quieter than the 360(which i can confirm) however xbox live i feel is superior to psn so like i said swings and roundabouts, not fanboy jibberish |

I always switch my stuff off at the plug. Just a habit i've gotten into, I guess. But it's a good habit, so i'm all for it. I know they probably don't use "much" electricity, but still.

we now have the DS3, its a great joypad and most of the games on the 360 and ps3 are the same apart from the system exclusives, halo , mgs4 etc so fanboy jibberish then

I'd have to crawl around on the floor to unplug mine so it gets left on, the power consumption is next to nothing so it doesn't bother me.

Personally, prefer having just 1 system regardless, yes PS3 has a few good exclusives, but not enough to warrant owning both systems. |

My decision was based purely on the fact that the 360 has a better gaming catalog, xbox games seem to get better reviews than the equivalent PS3 title (in general) and Xbox live is reportedly better too. (Sorry for going off topic here but everyone else is). |

I don't switch mine off at the wall. But that's mainly due to the fact I can't get to the socket!
If I pulled the wire out of the back, it would fall down the back and I wouldn't be able to get it back out again without moving a lot of furniture. Everything in this house remains plugged in, although I'm aware that it most definitely shouldn't be, if nothing else, for safety reasons. I'm sure I'd notice a fair whack off the electricity bill if I did though
