It hasn't entirely dumped DRM.

I still have 582 songs that aren't available as iTunes Plus.

8 million today, 2 million more by April.

The one annoying thing is you can only upgrade every song available - you can't upgrade bits and pieces so my upgrade so far is about £50. Not sure I want to spend that much especially as I don't listen to all of the songs that often.

That's the problem I have.

I paid £82 to upgrade some of it, now I'm being told £22 will get me an additional 120 songs (some of which I know I don't want to upgrade).

Plus I know that there will be even more to upgrade in the future.

The evil of DRM is being scrapped at long freaking last. Now I can put all my forthcoming songs on all of my devices without the need of using *coughs* external software.

Good riddance DRM!

(Not that it affects me but it does affect my wife .... she uses an iPod & iTunes)

But whats all this paying to "upgrade"? Surely if you already have a DRM version of a song from them, which you paid for, they'll give you the non-DRM version for nothing?

No?

No.
You have to pay an extra 20p to update each one.
But you can only do ALL of them. You can't cherry pick the songs you want to update which I think is a bad move.

Much as I applaud them for finally dropping DRM, I do also have to say ...... what a bunch of robbing b@$t@rd$!

Glad I've always avoided DRM'd stuff like the plague.

Oh well, at least it's a one-off payment. Only about half my purchased tracks are currently available to upgrade, so at least I can spread the payments out.

And now iVolume can work its magic and get all the volumes the same. Bonus!

although i think i is good, i can understand them asking us to pay again to upgrade it (kinda cheeky tho) but waht pisses me off is that i can't just upgrade certain songs i need to do the whole lot! i mean underneath the 'special offer' (what are they going to put the upgrade prices up?) is that they advertise i can update my beyonce album for £2 but i cant just update that, i need to do my entire purchase library

also are all tracks that get downloaded now 320kbs and drm free?

This has much less to do with Apple changing its mind and far more to do with the opening of Amazon Mp3 store IMO.

Apple could have done this much earlier than it did. It suited them not to.
