The Deadly Assassin
Frontier in Space / Planet of the Daleks (with recoloured episode 3)
The War Games (3 disc set with over two hours of extras)

And still 5 titles to be announced including another box set.”

They all sound like good releases apart from Delta And the Bannermen and The Deadly Assassin, I refuse to buy any 7th Doctor DVDs and I've always thought The Deadly Assassin is overrated. I've always been fond of Attack of the Cybermen even though it has its faults, only one more story and Colin's releases are complete then.

You've not addressed the 'season' issue.

Some seasons are almost universally disliked, even if the Doctor in them isn't.

Season 17 is a good example, though personally I'm lukewarm on most Williams' series anyway.

Season 17 is becoming a bit more fashionable at the moment.

I wish they would stop overstaffing the commentaries! I'm on battlefield at the moment. Sophie Aldred and Nicholas Courtney are old Who pros, so know exactly what to say. The writer and script ed moan about the script and vision (very interestingly, usually) and have a dialogue between themselves. Angela Bruce only rarely gets a chance to speak. Fewer contributors would make more effective contributions.

Season 17 is near the end of Baker's tenure anyway, so would that really be a problem?

It's academic anyway, it's not going to happen and no-one else appears bothered. At least, not bothered in your direction.

Or better still, offer a choice of commentaries. Perhaps one technical with writers, directors etc and one with the acting talent?

Heh, fair enough. I'm just moaning for the sake of moaning, aren't I?

DEADLY ASSASSIN YAY! And I'm quite excited about The War Games, too. On top of that, Pertwee's fourth season will now be available in complete form.

That's an excellent idea! You do sort of get that with the new series, though they do mix it up a bit.

A choice of commentaries would be nice. (The Five Doctors rerelease did that quite well).

Certainly they need to stop swamping me with voices and information, all shouting each other down and talking across each other. There's so much happening that no-one manages to finish what they start saying.

It's even more obvious when there are some "shrinking violets" involved. the Davison/Fielding/Sutton/Waterhouse ones are just a stream of noise. I'd like the chance to hear more of Sarah and Matthew, but Peter and Janet are far too busy criticising and sniping in a constant sarky burble.

Lovely extras at the DVD website!

A history of Target books!
A feature on B&W film-making!
Extended Delta and the Bannermen! (be still my beating heart ... I will pray every night for a Bonnie commentary ... just Bonnie ... no-one else)

Nice that the companions are getting a look-in on those extras, too. I wondered if the semi-forgotten early companions (Dodo, etc) would get a look-in or be completely forgotten in the documentaries, and can only hope that this focuses on people who would otherwise slip through the net.

Nice to see The Scottish Falsetto Sock Puppet Theatre mentioned. I saw one of their shows a little while back, and it was a great laugh. There was a Dr Who joke in the middle of one of their "Shakespeare With Sock puppet" routines.

Fairly certain that the AWFUL Twin Dilemma is one of the other 5 as featurettes and Commentary were passed same time as Attack of Cybermen.

Planet of Fire has also been mentioned and would mean at least one Davison is released.

Happy with the above line up. Never buy 7th Doc DVD's but the rest will do fine!

I agree - Davison and Fielding are so loud Sutton gets un heard. The black orchid was a classic example. They all heted except for her and it would have been nice to hear what she had to say about the story.

They appear to be using the much hyped process that was used to rescue a Dads Army episode shown over Xmas to restore Planet of the Daleks 3 to colour

http://www.restoration-team.co.uk/ then click on "dvd releases" then "Dalek War"

I wonder why they get Janet Fielding to do DVD commentaries when she clearly just doesn't like the programme.

I notice Play.com have a number of classic DVDs down to £6.99 with a few such as The Brain of Morbius at £5.99.

She can be overly critical but I love her commentaries - they are always great fun and the banter between her and Davison is always amusing.

She normally has interesting things to say about the way making TV has changed over the years as well.

Even when Waterhouse and Sutton do say something it tends to be stupid or pointless in his case and dull and bland in hers so I'm quite happy to have Fielding & Davison there to liven things up.

I'm hoping the other unmentioned boxset may be either the black Guardian Trilogy with Mawdryn Undead, Terminus and Enlightenment OR a Mara boxset with Kinda and Snakedance

I might be wrong - but I'm sure I read that commentaries had been done for both Kinda and Snakedance, so they may be released soon(ish).

Kinda is one fo those stories that is let down by the fact it's so cheap-looking. If it were made today it would probably be brilliant.

I disagree.

I would certainly concur that the Peter Davison era was not a golden age of the programme, but even I was staggered by what a low opinion Peter and Janet obviously have of the show. When they aren't criticising the stagey sets, they are criticising the effects, the other actors' performances, the producer, the directors. It's got even worse since New Who came along, which they obviously both would rather be in. I couldn't believe it on the Warriors of the Deep DVD when she basically dismissed JNT as a producer, the man who gave her the only significant job of her acting career, and said that Russell is so much better because he's a writer and a genius. She then went on to say "look at the difference" between old Who and New Who because the old show never had writers as producers. I thought to myself "the old show lasted for 26 years Janet. They must have been doing something right". I just thought it was so insulting and nobody, except Matthew Robinson on the Resurrection DVD, ever stands up to her when she's talking out of her hat.

I do find it amazing that Janet Fielding does nothing but slag the show when it's actually the only reason she's famous. She never had much of a career in anything else.

I'm not against people spotting the flaws in the show, because it always had flaws, and other commentaries also have that. But I get the sense from other commentaries from most eras that the people working on the show had some respect and affection for the show they were making. I don't get that feeling from Janet Fielding at all. Peter's not much better but at least he occasionally says something nice. I've heard enough Fielding commentaries now and they've become rather predictable. I'd prefer to hear other people on future Davison era DVDs.

The Keys of Marinus?! Jeepers!

Agree with the Janet fielding comments. She's very one-note. She's occasionally very funny, but she has a very loud and clear voice criticisng every aspect of DW.

I watched The War Machines commentary recently. One actor (Anneke Wills) and the director (Michael Ferguson). Excellent. Maybe could have done with a moderator to tease out more about, say Jackie Lane as Dodo, but generally an excellent commentary.

Bunging half a dozen people in a room and having them shout at each other for 100 minutes can be a bit wearing.
