Certainly looks dodgy. According to http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk :

Shortcode 83669. This is a text message service charged at premium rate. The types of services operating on this number can be ring tones, jokes, games, tarot, chat, mobile internet services (WAP) and more.

Despite initial confusion by the Vodafone mods/admins on their message board, it was confirmed that the number was legitimate.

interesting.

i presume vodafone would advise anyone to not reply to unsolicited short code texts with the word 'Yes' - i would certainly advise that they don't.

so one has to wonder why they are doing this themselves.

I have to admit that when I first got a text from that number a month or so ago (it wasn't the one you got, but some offer about a bonus, like mentioned on that thread), I was dubious about it and did a Google search, finding the answer above. In the end I replied to it, and it was as legit as they say. It didn't help that the name of the sender was "-Vodafone-", instead of Vodafone.
