My CRT TV in the bedroom has finally given up the ghost and I am likely to replace it with a fairly cheap (from Tesco or ASDA perhaps) LCD TV with builtin DVD and Freeview. But does anyone know which supermarket branded LCD TVs can be operated with a Sky remote control?

I'd stay away from the ASDA own branded guff, unless you like poping into your local store every two minutes for a replacement.

Although I've been more than pleased with my Onn (ASDA brand) freeview box, and ADSA does have one of the best returns policies.

Stay clear of TV/DVD's - their lack of reliability is legendary!.

I had a bad experience with the Tescos and Sainsburys LCDTV/DVD for my daughters birthday. Ended up getting a just a nice little Samsung with built in freeview, and stuck to connecting a separate DVD player. Major tuning issues and probems with the remote controls not functioning. Her Samsung LCDTV is perfect !

Would never attempt to get a combi unit again.

You would have to ask at Asda, it depends who actually manufactures any particular set - which may well be different for every set.

even if you had a tv that was controlled by sky remote you may have to get a new remote as the old versions haven't got all the tv codes

I doubt whether anyone at ASDA would know or even understand the question.

So why buy a TV from someone so completely incompetent?.

Bear in mind it's their own brand - all service, spares and information is THEIR responsibility. There's no one else to ask.

I think you're doing it the wrong way round - there's too many variables.

Find a TV you like the look of then do your research online to see if there's a compatible Sky code available.

Looking at the Technika brand for example - there's plenty of potential codes out there, but getting the right one for a specific model seems to be a bit of a minefield.

I wouldn't necessarily expect anyone in a supermarket to have an in depth knowledge of the electrical goods that they sell, but they are cheap to buy and easy to return if they don't suit. I simply want something cheap for the bedroom. And I have yet to find anyone competent in one of the leading electrical stores. I overheard someone asking in Currys what a CAM slot was for in a Freeview TV. The salesman went away to ask and came back with the answer that it was something to do with Freestat (yes he said Freestat and not Freesat).
