Can anyone offer me advice please.

I have been following threads on this forum concerning using an external HDD and formatting it as EXT3 to get over the 4GB file limit imposed by FAT32.

I have made some progress, but I am now at a standstill.

Being very honest, I have to admit that I do not understand the Linux based system at all, in particluar the terms mounting and unmounting a drive and this could be where my problem lies.

Using software by Acronis I have been able to format ??? the USB drive as EXT3 ( I think ). Then using Ext2IFS to enable Windows XP to see the drive etc.

I can write to the drive in Windows. When connected to the Foxsat I can copy files over to it and also play them back on the Foxsat, but when connected to the PC it does not show any files. It says the drive is not formatted. I have also loaded Ubuntu as a dual boot with Windows and although I do not understand this software , I can see that the files that were copied from the Foxsat are on the drive.

I am hoping that someone on this forum can help.

Hi, for some reason the HDR doesn't fully unmount the drive, so you need to boot into ubuntu, then on the desktop mouse right click the USB drive and select "unmount" once completed reboot into windows, you'll then see the USB drive and all its contents

Hi, Many thanks for the information. I can now see the drive in Windows.

These things are always hard when you are newbie to PC's and satellite. ( and being an OAP does not help )

Do you know of any Windows software that would allow me to unmount the EXT3 drive. Ubuntu does it fine, but I am only using it for this purpose and it appears to have slowed down my PC somewhat.
