My Toshiba 19" LCD does not have a full off mode, its standby or on only. I normally unplug it when i go to sleep but is it safe to leave it in its standby state and how much electricity does it use when in this state? It has built-in freeview so i guess this is why it does not have a "proper" on/off switch.

I'd be interested to know the answer to these questions too - I have a Toshiba 37" LCD that only has stand by/on, no "off" other than switching it off at the socket.

The tv is plugged in behind some heavy units and so I have been leaving it on stand by (daytime when I'm out and at night) apart from when it's on and I'm watching it .

Didn't they pass laws about this. It all adds up, especially these days.

Just looking around my bedroom I can see several little LED's constantly on.

If you look in the back of the Instruction Manual (if you can find it ) it should tell you there.

I have a JVC 17" LCD and it's 60w on and 6w standby

Our Tosh 42WLT66 cannot be fully switched off. TBH I couldn't give a t*ss how much power it uses when in standby. I pays me bill, I use what I want!

BTW it uses around 1W in standby. Hardly going to ruin my day!

If it truly is 1W then working on the UK average of 12p per kWh (1000W for 1 hour) you could leave it on standby for 41.6 days for 12p, or around £1.05 for the whole year.

My Panny 37" LCD is 0.3W in standby, so 30p a year!

This is your answer.

BTW, it uses 'RF' rather than infrared which our normal remotes use. This means that you don't need to point the remote at the plug bit - RF passes through obstructions that would stop a normal infrared remote signal

Hope that helps

Regards

Chris
