connection help please
hi,another newbie question i'm afraid. I have just purchased a PANASONIC TH-37PX80BA plasma I already have a humax 9200 PVR and I am awaiting delivery on a Panasonic SC-PT460EB Home Cinema System (with DVD) I would like to be organised and have all the cables I need to get sorted, I know the cinema system need a HDMI cable to the telly, but I have the humax to the telly by scart but want to put it through the home cinema first,
thanks in advance mid999 |

Simply connect the Humax to the HT system using the optical connection. You could be supplied with an HDMI cable, and maybe even an optical cable, so check before you go out and buy these individually.
There is no video input on this system, and while it does upscale for LCDs and Plasmas, that is restricted to the built in DVD player. There is a SCART interface on it, but I suspect this is an output only, so you can use it if the TV doesn't have an HDMI input. To see and play/hear: Select the Humax's channel on the TV as normal, and select the relevant connection on the HT system. Ensure the TVs sound is turned right down (but don't mute - to avoid the mute icon). |

I cant see that a PVR would have an SPDIF input as these normally only record from internal tuners.
I think that this is the optical output you are looking for. Scorp |

Yes, SPDIF is the optical digital out socket you need - connect to the HT using the optical cable as suggested earlier.

any further help greatly appreciated SPDIF is the type of digital connection and can mean either the single 75ohm coax digital connection OR the fibre optic digital connection. In your case, this is clearly the optical output connection. Edit...... so many of us posted at once, and this must be the first time we've all come to the same conclusion.

for TV audio you will need a red/white phono pair from TV audio out at back of TV to phono AUX in on the HC (only use when not watching on Humax).
