Hi

I have just bought a LG 373000 LCD tv and want to connect my Sky + box and Sony DVD Recorder. I currently have them connected as the following

Sky TV out to AV1 on TV via scart
Sky VCR to Input on DVD recorder via scart
Output from DVD player into composite on TV

The picture direct from sky box is a bit grainy and blocky but the picture coming through the DVD recorder is better but not brilliant.

I was thinking of connecting them up the following way
Sky TV out to Component on TV via a Scart to component lead
Sky VCR to Input on DVD recorder via scart
Output from DVD recorder into AV1 on TV via a component to scart lead.

Need help on whats the best setup to get the best possible picture.

The best way to connect these is as follows.

Sky+ TV SCART --> DVDR input SCART (prob AV2)
DVDR out SCART (prob AV1) --> TV RGB SCART (prob SCART1)

Make sure that all inputs/outputs are RGB, that is the most important thing. Don't even consider SCART to component interfacing.

RT (F) M. It's HD Ready. It will have.

It almost certainly will have (though it may just be one of them), also when an RGB connection is made you should get some sort of icon up briefly on the screen to confirm this.

One way to check is (with the DVDR switched off into standby) is to press the TV and Sky buttons on the Sky+ remote - there should be a clear difference with after Sky press being better. This will also check that the SCART cable is fully wired.

i have noticed that when i select the input under AV1 the scart picture is blue but under AV2 the scart picture is grey. Could the blue one indicate its RGB. I tried changing the Sky setting from RGB to Pal and wasnt much of a difference on my current set up.

This is the recognised setup for the kit you have.

Ensure that any settings for the inpout scart (AV2) and the output scart (AV1) on the DVDR are set to RGB in the appropriate menu.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by 'picture is blue' and 'picture is grey'?

AV2 being grey might indicate the SCART input is set for S-video, I'm not familiar with your TV but some have RGB on SCART 1 and S-video on SCART 2. You should not need to use SCART 2 if you set up as I suggested.

The difference between RGB and PAL is quite clear, however you should probably also see an icon on the TV when it switches - do you see this?

I tried the setup suggested last night and it worked fine but picture quality was brilliant. I might try buying dome decent cables today to see if this makes a difference. I was also thinking of connecting my DVD via component.

If your DVD recorder has component then that may be an improvement if it sends progressive (576p) for films or upscales but it may not make any difference - try it and see is the best advice. One thing to bare in mind is that component won't automatically aspect ratio switch so you'll have to do that manually, also component is 5 cables because you have to do sound separately.
