No Keane nominations anywhere? They've been robbed! That album was one of my highlights of last year.

Agreed. It's one thing to sell records, it's another to recognise their debut as being an achievement in "music."

Saying that, they did seem like nice lads when interviewed, not the arrogant cocks I was expecting.

Bloody hell I cannot believe that X factor girl is nominated. Do the Brit people just bend over and let Cowell **** them up the arse until they agree to nominate his over produced warbling bint.

Don't even get me started on the lyrical genius that is Scouting for shit, sorry, I mean girls!!!

Glad to see Girls Aloud get a couple of nods, and although unlikely i would love them to win one- preferably Best Group but the Brits seems to be anti-pop which is a shame.

The noms also show a great lack of British Males this year- Will Young had a mediocre album and James Morrison has had two good songs, but other than that? I didnt even realise that The Streets had an album out this year!?

DuffY deserves and award as well.

Here's what I'm hoping:

Leona Lewis - 'Better In Time'

British Album
Ting Tings - We Started Nothing

British Breakthrough Act
Ting Tings

British Live Act
The Verve

International Male Solo Artist
Jay-Z

International Female Solo Artist
Beyoncé/Katy Perry/Pink (can't choose )

International Group
Kings of Leon

International Album
Kings of Leon - Only By The Night

Pleasantly suprised by some of the nominations for once!

Who I'd peronally like to see win (I'm not gonna say who I think will actually win because it's too disheartening):

British Male Solo Artist
Not too bothered really, but out of all those I'd say Ian Brown.

British Female Solo Artist
Again, not too fussed but I'd quite like to see Beth Rowley win.

British Group
Elbow

British Single
Coldplay - Viva La Vida

British Album
Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid

British Breakthrough Act
Not too bothered about this one, but I guess out of all of those I'd prefer to see The Ting Tings or TLSP win. Or just basically anyone but Scouting For Girls.

British Live Act
Elbow - they're not my favourite band ever, but live they're the best I've seen. Simply magnificent.

International Male Solo Artist
Not fussed by any in particular but I guess out of that list either Beck or Seasick Steve.

International Female Solo Artist
Same as above, but out of that list I'd say Santogold.

International Group
Fleet Foxes

International Album
Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes (GORGEOUS album)

British Producer of the Year
Bernard Butler. I don't like Duffy that much but the production on the songs I've heard of heard certainly makes the most of her talent, and, being such a huge Suede fan, I do feel a kind of loyalty towards him... though with Brian Eno also in the running I really doubt he'll win.

No offence, but how the hell isnt Leona nominated for British female? Shes one of the biggest things on the planet right now.

She hasn't released a new album this year and so wasn't eligible this time around.

Adele for Best Female

Coldplay Album & Live act

Will Young Best Male - great album reviews, biggest album sales for a solo male artist, sell out tour & well received at the festivals. He's also long overdue a performance slot but I'm not holding my breath.

Errr James Morrison? His second single and his album are still top 10 and are still selling strong, he is having massisve success this year, I think he will win this easily

Coldplay will be winners again for sure, and Adele will beat Duffy as she is the critics favourite and hopefully The Kings of Leon will bag an award too.

I thought the voting closed on December 10th JM's single was released on the 8th or 15th so will have no bearing unless they had a crystal ball.. It's abum sales that are important & to date even with the massive help of his second single his sales still trail Will's by around 65k. Also Will's album reviews were much better but I think you are probably right that JM will win as the panel will vote for the more perceived 'cool' artist. Funny that they share the same co writers but then James isn't posh or gay.

Nice to see we agree on Adele & Coldplay & Kings of Leon.

All that you've said above plus the fact that this is Will's fourth successive platinum selling album, the fourth top two charting album, he has a sell out theatre tour and a successful foray into the festivals and the fact that Will was the top selling male solo artist in the UK last year should count towards him winning Best Male.

For all that, I wouldn't give him a snowball's chance in hell, his face doesn't fit you see, just the way that Take That's doesn't either, because if they did, then the biggest selling artists in the UK last year, wouldn't be on the receiving end of just one nod, when Scouting for Girls are up for three. What a farce the Brits are.

After reading the nominations for the Brits, I have three questions to ask. Firstly, who the hell makes the final decision on who makes the list? Secondly, I ask this because Leona Lewis - one of the best solo artists we've had in years, has been forgotten & thirdly, who the hell is M.I.A? It must be totally bewildering for an artist as successful as Leona - someone that 99% of people will have heard of, to be totally ignored, in favour of someone, who I can honestly say I've never heard of. Am I on my own here, or does anyone else share my view?

POLO 1, if you read back through this threasd you will see that Leona doesn't qualify for nomination this year. Her album was released last year - the Deluxe version doesn't count - so she can't be nominated.

What amazes me is that people get nominated in the Best single for songs which have been released previously, albeit by other artists. It should be for original songs (like they do in the Oscars).

As Marguerite says "What a farce"! Ditch it all, I say. They change the rules to fit each year.

It would be like nomintating someone for an Oscar when they hadn't made a film in the last 12 months, they may be popular ,well known, critically accalimed etc but the ceremony is based on recent body of work - last14 months.

Dizzee Rascal makes the BM shortlist based on one single getting to No 1 in July.

Bernard butler should definitely not win producer of the year.
Should he receive an award for giving duffy some old mcalmont and butler songs? nah dont think so!

Does the man have no pride??! Suede to Duffy...DUFFY!!?? Brett was much better without him.

If the cut off point is Dec 10th, then does this years nominations run from say, Dec 11th 2007 - Dec 10th 2008?

How about singles? Why is Alexandra Burke included for a song that wasn't aired or released until 14/17th Dec?

Love how Beck is nominated - how many years is that? How well do his albums sell over here?

I don't think cover versions should be included in Best Single, which cuts out 3 of the nominations.

Scouting for Girls - I'm afraid there's no denying how successful they were last year. Their songs were everywhere and are used on TV shows and adverts. I'm no fan, but I can see why they got nominated (Live act is a bit odd though!)

I've always found the nominations to be totally random, they could do with a few more categories. I think one of the best Brit shows was around 98/99. A lot of the record companies really put in an effort with their artists who performed on the show.

As soon as I saw he had released an album last year I knew he was a shoe in Has he ever won it? If not he must surely hold the record for the most nominations (and in a row!) and not winning! Im afraid I could only name one song by him 'Loser'

I still can't fathom Scouting For Girls Live Act...I can see the other 2 nominations just but LIVE act?! Over Oasis et al?! Surely some mistake...the music journos of the people who vote in these things like NME/Q DESPISE them!!! Most bizarre choice ever

Was '99 the Steps/B Witched/random pop group medley?

Just out of interest, which McAlmont/Butler songs did he give her?
