also i feel Duffy will continue the tradition of a one album wonder winning loads of awards (see also the Darkness) before disappearing into obscurity.
Given Duffy's huge sales then her next album will go to number one on pre-orders alone - so no chance of being a one album wonder. Infact most of her second album is already recorded, so no problem coming up with new material.

Bernard butler coined all of duffy's "songs". I really hope that rooftopcowboy is right, and that this one album "wonder" will be the end for her "career".

Sorry about all the inverted commas, I just cannot take someone like duffy seriously at all. Is the state of british music that bad that we applaud people with NO talent and a half decent singing voice? It is pitiful that most of the, here i go again, "artists" on this nomination list confer to this fact.

If the cut off point is Dec 10th, then does this years nominations run from say, Dec 11th 2007 - Dec 10th 2008?

How about singles? Why is Alexandra Burke included for a song that wasn't aired or released until 14/17th Dec?

.
Singles are not nominated by the Brits Academy they are just taken from a list of the biggest sellers/Airplay from 2008

No offence, but how the hell isnt Leona nominated for British female? Shes one of the biggest things on the planet right now.
Because she's overhyped, overproduced, unoriginal crap and M.I.A is much better!! But the safe answer is that she hasn't had an album out this year

IF THERE IS ANY JUSTICE IN THE WORLD - IRON MAIDEN WILL WIN BEST LIVE ACT!

AC/DC should also win best international group and album, but probably won't.

And if dreary old Coldplay beat Iron Maiden as best live act, whoever voted for them has obviously never seen Iron Maiden's incredibly good live show.

Last year we had The Hoosiers nominated - why - because Jo Whiley's husband managed them. Someone please let me know - does he manage Scouting for Girls too?

I don't think MIA is crap but it's a bit stupid to imply that Leona didn't get a nom because she's overhyped/unoriginal considering that Kate Nash won last year

Although there are a few altercations I think this is the only forum where basically everyone is in agreement. The Brits are a load of crap.

Leona Lewis has decided not to attend the Brit Awards this year because she fears going home empty-handed, a report claims.

The X Factor winner has been nominated in just one category this year, with her song 'Better In Time' in the running for Best British Single. The winner will be decided by a public vote.

In 2008, Lewis was nominated in four categories but failed to pick up an award. Simon Cowell later criticised the result, claiming that Brit chiefs were "out of touch" with the public.

A source told the Daily Star Sunday: "The Brits is the biggest night of the UK music calendar, and Leona is arguably our biggest star, but she's giving it a wide berth. Leona was shocked she didn't pick up even one award last time and only last week watched her rivals clean up at the Grammys.

"With her massive sales it's ridiculous, but she's aware there's a lot of snobbery around reality TV winners. Rather than face the humiliation of being snubbed again, Leona's staying away."

The ceremony will be held at London's Earls Court on Wednesday night.

Diddums for Leona, I'm sick of all the "snubbed" stories about her, she's been bloody lucky to get the success she's had so far. A two year old so-so debut album and one decent song imo, one charity single and another cover to sell yet more albums. Get off your butt and work at it girl and stop expecting others to grovel at your feet. Cowell can't expect Leona to be continually rewarded for giving very little in return, performing on tv shows and at awards ceremonies around the world, doesn't constitute having a distinguished career.

Wow somebody is bitter. Nothing to do with luck at all. So you really think she's been sitting on her "butt" all year and not working at all? You couldn't be more wrong. I think you should get over there being another reality winner coming along who is much more successful than your favourite.

"Diddums" for you more like it, you always seem so bitter about how much success she's had. And she isn't going nowhere anytime soon - sucks for you!

And you make it out as if Leona's the one upset over not winning awards - but she actually wasn't upset at all last year when she left empty-handed. Instead of jumping on the opportunity to bash Leona herself over the snubbed stories, you should instead be complaining about the people writing them.

Why have I been jumped on by Leona Lewis fans for giving my opinion? and why the heck would I be bitter? all I said was, that I was sick of all the snubbed stories popping up every time she's not picked etc. It's my opinion that a lot of voting panels, would put her below the likes of Adele and Duffy etc and that she hasn't worked as hard as plenty of other talented females have done. It's also my opinion, that I think my favourite is much more successful and in so many different ways than Leona is or will ever be, so I'm happy and I've nothing to "get over", thanks all the same. I happened to have an opinion and I gave it, just because I'm a fan of Will Young and not of Leona, doesn't mean I'm bitter. I'm not a fan of Girls Aloud, but they sure as hell deserve to win a Brit this year.

I hope she isn't a no show because the one award she is up for this year is voted for by the British public and, I think everyone in that catergory owes it to their fans who've been voting for them over the rounds, to at least turn up for the event, if nothing else, it does acknowledge their efforts.

I hope she realises (or her people who decide for her) that there will be a time when she will probably win something. If there's any value to be placed on a win at all, then it should be for every year, not just the ones she is nominated for, but for all those inbetween too, when it's someone elses turn.

That said, as purely a spectator, personally I think they're a load of rubbish, like every award show going, but if Kate Winslett's anything to go by, they certainly mean a heck of a lot to the winners.

Why are you acting surprised if you've been "jumped on" for going into an incoherent and rather bitter seeming rant at someone for something which they haven't even done?

And also don't be surprised if people call you bitter if you go into several threads about someone you don't like and just say how crap everything they do is. Giving an opinion and being bitter aren't mutually exclusive.

Anyway on topic , I'm pretty sure that that's not the reason Leona is not going although whether she goes or not is irrelevant , I don't take those awards seriously anyway and good luck to whoever does beat her to it , one thing I do know is that I won't continuosly go around slating whoever wins as I'm actually secure in the success of one of my favourite artists.

Because your rant about Leona getting lucky and how she hasn't worked hard sounds extremely bitter. I don't understand why you believed a story from the Daily Star who are known to print absolute rubbish and then used it to go off on a tirade of ridiculous points like she expects people to grovel at her feet. You've seen enough about her surely to know she's not that kind of person.

Is it just a coincidence that many Will Young fans post in almost every Leona thread to slate her then? Whether she has a new song or video out they always take the time to watch it and then say how bad it was. Surely you didn't expect him to always be the only success story from UK reality TV?
