I know there are tutorials for DIY battery replacement but methinks i'm a bit too hamfisted to risk it , is there any where I can get this done reasonably cheaply ?

It's pretty easy.

I replaced the battery on the wifes old mini a while back with a kit from ebay. Was pretty straightforward and it stayed powered up longer than the original battery ever did. She doesn't use it any more though .... got herself an 30gb one instead.

It's still in a drawer somewhere I think .... and still works fine as far as I recall.

Is there any way you can get somebody that you know that is not so likely to break it to do it?

There is not too much to it really to replace the battery.

Just take your time with it and "feel" as you remove things (don't just yank stuff apart - remove it slowly and feel if there is anything holding it as it comes apart).

If you take it easy you should not have any problem.

Good luck.

Also if you start running out of space on the drive (or if the drive goes faulty) you can replace the hard drive on the Mini's with a compact flash card (upgraded mine to 16gb a while ago, but think I might be upgrading to 32gb soon, as I'm running out of space).
