No sound from optical input Samsung HT TX 715
I have a Samsung HT TX 715 home cinema with optical input. It works fine playing a dvd back through the hdmi for sound and vision but when i connect either a sky+ or an Xbox 360 in via the optical in there is no sound at all. I select Digital input rather than DVD - also tried Aux1 and Aux2. Sound files play fine on a USB memory key inserted into its USB host port too.
There is red laser coming out of the optical cable from both the Sky+ and the Xbox to I know the sources work. Any ideas - what am i missing? ps volume is turned up! |

If it was just your Xbox causing the problem then I'd say check the settings, but the Sky box too..hmm.
The Samsung manual doesn't show up anything obvious like source assignment that could prevent the optical working. Have you tried another optical cable? They're pretty easily damaged, and although the light might be visible it's worth double checking. Also have a look in the Sammy's optical socket - use a torch and check for anything obstructing the optical input. Regards Chris |

Other than this it could be a faulty lead as Chris said, or the Samsung disables the optical input when HDMI is being used, this has been known to happen especially on some Sony products. To eliminate this possibility optical is disabled, remove the HDMI and temporarily hook the the system up via scart/optical. |

Agree with all other suggestions - would go with the HDMI blocking the optical on the amp but..................
Just check that you have the optical cable inserted fully and correctly into the digital in socket, opticals are a bit iffy sometimes. Scorp |
