5 years ago I was into this HT in a big way, today I just want to watch the stuff and ain't too up to date with new technology.
My Arcam DV88 has an optical read problem and at £250 to repair seems a waste of money.
I am looking to buy a new DVD player sub £200. HD not important at the moment as I am a year away from HDTV purchase and have 300+ SD DVD's.
However I would listen to advice if future proofing would still allow good quality SD today.
I currently use SVideo to my TV (no HDMI) and digital audio to Denon receiver.
Recommendations anyone, please?

Well, good quality Blu-Ray/DVD players are available within your budget, so future proofing along those lines is certainly an option.

But be prepared to be surprised at the difference in the aesthetics of the audio playback. You might or might not like it.

Arcam make seriously good kit for the price point they are aimed at.
