Yesterday my mother was due to go to Sky Talk for her line rental and unlimited calls, however, since then we have a dial tone but EVERY number is not recognised (1471, 1571, 150 or my number).

She rung sky this morning and they said its down to BT not releasing the line, 17070 still works and the lady says this is a BT line with the usual options (call back, clear down, etc).

Have any of you guys experienced something similar? Where does she go from here Sky or BT or someone else?

She rung sky at 9 and i said to call back again now because she's been without a phone for over 24 hours, so at the very least she needs to make that clear.

it looks like the BT line has been stopped(hence the unable to dial out) and your line should have been re-jumpered to sky's equipment in the exchange by our jumper monkeys but hasn't for some unknown reason. you need to keep on at sky as they are now your mums comms provider, and get them to raise a task for a frames engineer to re-do the job.

how unusual, your mothers new phone company blame
her old phone company for her lack of service !!
it may well be bt's fault that the service hasnt transfered
it may be skys, but what shouldnt be in doubt is that
its skys responsibilty to get the line working, even if this
requires sky to contact bt, not your mother.
out of interest i think if the line was still connected to
bt but in a stopped state then 100,150 and 999 would
still work, 150 so that if someone moved into a property
with a stopped bt line they could call customer services
(150) and request the line to be started
stopped lines used to have a NU (number unobtainable)
tone until this 'soft' dialtone was introduced

Well all sorted now, I sent Sky CEO - James Durrock - a stinking email saying that my mother is thinking that she should never have left BT as she need a line that is reliable etc.

Anyway she got a phone call on her mobile from someone called Rob from senior Sky Talk complaints and he activated the phone while she was on the phone to him - she got 6 months free line rental and 25% off her Sky bill for 3 months and a full apology - result .
