'Charles Ingram knew nothing of reality TV and was persuaded to do the show by his wife, Diana, who is a great fan. They met executives of the TV company and Mr Ingram's face went blank when the name Jade Goody was mentioned.
He said: "I had never heard of her, but after the meeting but before recording started I happened to watch a programme about her in the series Tabloid Tales. I was horrified. I couldn't believe what I had let myself in for. She came over as being rude and obnoxious."
But there was no backing out and, in May, Jade arrived at Easterton. Mr Ingram said: "We put up with each other for the first few days until it became her turn to organise the house in her own way. We then had a bit of a row. Well, that sounds a bit two-sided. In fact, she was on transmit and I was on receive. That cleared the air between us and from then on we got on like a house on fire. I haven't seen the programme but they shot about 120 hours of footage so they can make just about anything out of it. I hope it is funny, because it was great fun.
"If asked would I do it again, yes, I would. Perhaps not with Jade, because we've done that, but certainly with someone else. I think we learned a great deal from each other. Jade has been through the mangle in her life and she has come through it. She has far more common sense and energy than anyone gives her credit for....'
