My guess; to expand the season's length, since DOI is proving more and more popular.

Although, a few people on the Blue Room forum seem to think only the men will skate this week, since Graeme in his interview, says something about,

"The women don't want to leave in Week 2..."

I hope this isn't true .

Because there are 12 new celebrities as usual but Michael Underwood was desperate to have another go after being in it for 2 weeks last year and breaking his ankle.

Perhaps it's something new they are trying to stop a lot of the female celebs being voted of first, and for a few weeks alternate between the male and female skaters until they have a smaller amount celebs to include them in one show until the final. Given the amount of this years contestants it might make sense to do it that way as at least those performing will be able to do longer routines instead of short ones for the first few weeks.

My guess is so that if someone gets injured they will still have enough people for the final without having to bring someone in late (maybe there'll be a double elimination later in the series)

Oh I don't like this idea. Even if it is just for the first two weeks

i think 13 is the perfect amount of contestants,
but o agree it does feel weird, with it being an odd number and all that. also there won't be the same amount of male & female celebs to starts with, which is odd.
