Ear buds.

I am wondering what people on here think of the ear-bud style of earphone. They seem to be quite popular these days. I remember buying some a couple of years ago. They were Philips, I can't remember the exact model, they were similar to those in the first link below except they had a round red back.

Anyway they cost me £30 as far as I can remember and I didn't rate them at all. I had problems with fitting the buds comfortably in my ears. Also I found they came off easy and it wasn't long before I lost some. I found them to be quite a pain really and have always been reluctant ever since to give that style of earphone a second chance.

I have actually noticed they do sell replacement buds, this is something I had not noticed before.

Heres some examples of the type of thing I am describing.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-C...1590173&sr=8-4

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-MDREX85...590276&sr=8-21

So what do people on here feel about these kind of earphones? All feedback appreciated.

I had some on my Sony Walkman. I much preferred them to my Ipod earphones. It did take me ages to find replacements though! (Dixons at the airport was the best place).

I had a pair of Shure (can't remember the model) and Etymotic ER4P. I never got along with the Shures, the high frequencies were far too quiet, but the Etymotic were fantastic. The sound quality is awesome and the sound isolation is incredible. It's also a lot safer, since you can walk around the streets wearing expensive headphones, which look just like cheap buds.

The downside to the design is that movement of the cable can cause excessive noise (akthough there are ways around this), and the buds have to be replaced regularly due to earwax, particularly a problem with buds that go deep into the ear canal since that can encourage the production of earwax. They can also be uncomfortable if worn over long periods of time.

Unfortunately, I broke my Etys a month ago

Fit is all important with these types of earphones, if they don't sit tightly in your ear sound will get in from the outside, the sound will be very tinny and they can easily fall out. Experiment with different buds until you find a good fit

I don't like those 'asymmetric' headphones.
Where one ear bud is on a much long chord than the other - for some reason.

And I'm having problems buying some new headphones online - 'cos they don't often say in the description whether they are asymmetric or not - and you can't always tell from the photos.

Yeh i prefer buds too I used some of those pink gumy earphones in the gym, and spent most of the time trying to put them back in my ears when i was on the treadmill! The earbuds i have now have a secure fit and don't fall out every 5 seconds!

Cheers for that suggestion Matt. Do they only come with one size of bud? I know that some others are supplied with small, medium and larger buds.

I use the creatives as well. They come with three different sizes of earbuds i.e. small, medium, and large. They are excellent and have a wicked bass.

they are made by fosters of Japan who also supply many of the more expensive earbuds e.g. seinheisser, so in my opinion are one of the best 'bang for the buck' earbuds around.

I would suggest buying them from a big online retailer i.e. amazon.co.uk, and i mean directly, not from one of there marketplace sellers, as there are alot of fakes about. I bought mine from amazon.co.uk for about £7.

I haven't found any problems with earwax buildup but you can clean them out with an earbud.

The cable is abit longer then average with is great if you want to put the player in your jeans pocket.

The cable is the same length for each earbud, if that makes any sense.

Hope this helps

head-fi.org is a good place for info
better than here for that sort of thing.
the creatives are basically almost the same as the cx300 senns. i like the finish on the senns more, and the J cord is my preference. i got both because of the holiday sales made it ridiculously cheap to buy, its a good value but better can be had.

I have these. They're the best earphone I've ever had, but I've had to replace them recently because I always fall asleep listening to my iPod and wake up to find them tangled round my neck, near choking me, and a wire had obviously come loose as they weren't working properly.

I have a pair of ear buds, Panasonic ones but I couldn't tell you the model. Couldn't go back to ordinary phones now, apart from when I go running when I wear round-the-back-of-the-head Sony's, as my buds only seem to stay in my ears for about ten seconds when I go running, probably to do with my Paula Radcliffe-esque head-wobbling. Hate the earwax though. *Puke*

It's longer to go round the back of your head rather than hanging down the front!
