I think the difference is, in a show like this and Strictly - and any of the other of the myriad of Celebrities Learning A New Skill Show And Being Judged - is that the celebs involved are doing it for the exposure - it's kinda like a Celeb Job Search.
We
know that Todd really hasn't had a life long burning desire to learn to ice dance in the same way that Rachel Stevens wasn't having sleepless nights over the lack in her life of a decent Tango.
The celebs are doing it as much for themselves and their profile as the judges are. If the outcome is another part on prime time tele, then I guess they would take a few scathing comments on account. The show gets publicity. People watch and, hopefully for ITV, people vote. Job done.
The fact that people can remember harsh judges and comments going back decades really shows that the show produced the bottom line - people watched and remembered.
