HUMAX HDR recordings lost
Hi all.
I have just purchased the Humax HDR and have had both good and bad experiences with it so far. Jusy thought I'd share some of them with you guys as my first post on here. Initially when I first received the box it wouldn't pick up anything from freesat whatsoever, but I could get channels from the Sky satellite on manual tune. After calling a local dish expert they came and replaced the LNB with a new quad one and I then managed to get freesat detected and the postcode entered with no problems. Since then the box has failed to power up twice, making a clicking noise that sounded like it was coming from the hard disk - this was sorted out both times by switching off and on again at the rear of the unit. Also I cannot get the Zone Horror, Zone Horror + 1 or ITV HD (when broadcasting) channels - I get the bad or no signal message. I put this down to the dish to be honest and think I may need a slightly bigger one. Finally, I have recorded quite a few programs over the last few days and series linked some of them. All the series linked recordings it automatically placed in folders. However, when I turned to watch one last night, on pressing the media button I found that all the folders and the recordings contained in them had vanished! The space on the hard disk is still used but the folders are no longer visible so I cannot access them. All that is left are the single recordings that were not series linked. Does anyone have any ideas on this please? Other than those issues, the box is working fine!

Yeah I guess. I even called Humax about some of the issues and the guy on the phone said that an update was due over the air and on the website on or shortly after 16 January so hopefully that will sort things out

I appreciate that there's a degree of fine tuning software-wise with new [sat] kit, but isn't it time that manufacturers stopped using customers as free beta testers? I've purposely hung back from getting a Foxsat HDR for this very reason - there are too many reports of things breaking, features missing, etc. Much as I'd like a box, until such time as I feel confident that the platform is reasonably stable my credit card will stay nice and toasty in my wallet. Loosing recordings is a fundamental function - if the box can't do that then it's not fit for purpose. I know that for every problem there might be dozens of people who don't have any issues with the box, but if the kit was that good then this and similar forums would be pretty empty, and they're not.

Clem There seems to be no real reported problems of serious loss of data with the humax box. I suspect either user error or a faulty box. |

I can assure you it is definitely not user error. I have just recorded watchdog under series link to test. When I go to find it it is not listed but the space is taken. I will try formatting the drive later and see if that helps. Everything under series link or in folders is not visible since yesterday. The recording functions were working fine up until this point. If all else fails I will try a factory reset once I have watched what is accessible. I will keep you posted.

Hi again.
Well after watching all the recorded progs that were accessible I formatted the hard disc and all seems to be well again. I can now make a folder and see it whereas before it would let me create the folder but then it was not visible or accessible. So, it seems to have been a hard disc error/glitch. I did alter the default partition when I first set the box up to only use 1Gb for music/photo. I have set it to 4GB this time. I'll keep you all posted as to its reliability from this point on! Thanks for the comments everyone

Rubbish - the thread started with a REAL reported problem - so how can you blandly say oitherwise.
If you read the threads in this forum, you will see there have been a number of problems - a lot of which are similar to the problems encountered by sky+H@D users As with all mass produced products there is only so much testing that can be done before the product is released. in my opinion the real test is how quickly a company responds to the problems and sorts them out. I for one have had no serious issues with my box, apart from one missed recording and that would be down to the broadcaster !!
