Wireless access abroad

I'm heading off to Canada for a couple of weeks. Both of the hotels i'll be staying in offer free wireless internet.
Being relatively new to both contracts and smartphones i'm just after some advice as to whether i can utilise the internet access.
From past experience a know that vodafone switches to the rogers network out there and as such my included minutes and texts don't count while in canada. The same will go for my internet access.
But am i right in assuming that I can use any wireless point regardless of where i am. I won't be charged for anything will i?

If your phone supports wifi (can connect to home routers or hotspots)
then you wont be charged
If you use the mobile network for the data then you will be charged

Ok thanks for that.

Just didn't want to incur any charges for searching for a wifi network. As I say, I'm a bit out of the loop.
Don't want to take a laptop out there but would still want to go online without having to find an internet cafe.
