What's happening to Foxsat HDR supply? It seems to be even more difficult to get hold of now than it was before Christmas. For practical reasons I need to get one from a real shop and have been regularly checking availability at Argos since the end of Novemeber. Only once since Christmas do I remember seeing it available at all. That was only for home delivery and only for a few hours. Currys did have it on their website for a few days last week, but it was always listed as out of stock for both Home Delevery and Reserve and Collect. It's now been removed from the Currys website. When can we expect it to be freely available?

Pop into your local Currys branch. Ask them to check local stock on part number 808073. Mine didnt have any but a nearby one was showing 4 in stock. I was only making a general enquiry as I already have one but the manager said if I didnt want to make the journey he would order it from the other branch for me.

Thanks for the suggestion but, as my nearest Currys is about an hour's drive away (and an hour back, probably empty handed) it's not quite as simple as "popping in". Unless I'm near a Currys for some other reason, I rely on their website for availability in store. I did pop in to a Currys on 2nd January when nearby having dropped my kids off at the airport after their Christmas vist - no stock, no stock in other branches in the region, and no stock scheduled.

Home delivery can be a frought experience here unless I'm very careful. The shop has to deliver to the Republic of Ireland, use a card handling agent that understands that many rural RoI addresses don't have house numbers (let alone postcodes) and that it is possible to have a UK card registered to an address in RoI, and can guarentee which day delivery will be (which effectively means they have current stock). If I miss a courier deliver, I risk driving several hours to collect from the depot. If anyone knows of such a shop, please let me know! I can tolerate delivery one day either side of the "guarenteed" day, but planning to have someone in for more than three consecutive days is not on.

My only other suggestion is to get Currys Customer Service to contact the branch for you to ask about local stock. They "might" put you through to a branch so you can speak directly but this is rare. If they say there is stock, get them to put it on one side for collection. It has worked for me when reserve online has shown no stock.

I hasten to add, I have also been told all this, only to get to the store where they know Rockall about it and I've had a wasted journey!! If they are willing to let you talk to the branch it does help to confirm everything.

Thanks again. If I get really desperate, I'll probably try that. Actually, I nearly got desperate yesterday when I was in Lidl and saw a single channel FTA 80MB PVR at (IIRC) €170. That would solve a lot of my needs as I already have a Technomate. I was sorely tempted to get that and look again for Freesat+ later on in the year when there should be more choice available. However, FTA receivers are fine (perhaps preferable) for viewing but you really need the EPG support for recording. I'm thinking that I may see how things are at the end of the month and then try your suggestion before resorting to the single tuner FTA PVR solution.

If Cuurys operate the same as Comet they only show stock instore if there is more than 3 in stock, so i could check online @ Kilmarnock & Irvine & they show no stock but both could have 2 on their shelves

I believe it's much the same with Curry & PCW who share the same stock system. I was led to believe by them that when stock gets down to 5 or less it goes to unavailable on the web even though they may actually have 0-5 in store. They are covering themselves against stock errors and lost stock due to shoplifting etc.

Currys...I'm impressed!

Went in the Cheltenham store today to find a Humax HDR but as I expected there was none. Spoke to a nice chap who checked stock at other stores. He said there were none within the available delivery branches but found one where he lives in Stratford. He picked up the phone and spoke to someone he worked with before and sure enough they had one. The guy I spoke to said he would pop in on his way home tonight and bring it to Cheltenham when he's next in on Friday.

Did all the reserve paperwork and everything so looks good.

I did notice that they had 3 in stock in Banbury if anyone's interested.

Now, as an online purchaser for many years now due to great online prices vs lack of customer service in store, I am well chuffed, perhaps stores are changing...or I just got lucky.

Only problem is that I already have one on back order with Maplins, have emailed them to cancel the order but I might end up with two! That'll learn me!

Looking forward to playing with the Foxsat on Friday.

Cheers, Mike

I dont think Maplins can force you to take a back order. Who knows, you might still be waiting in a 3 months time! I assume you haven't paid a deposit.

Currys and PCW have bent over backwards to help me on many an occasion. You just need to speak to someone who knows and cares which is usually a friendly duty Manager.

When Dixons were messing me about with my PVR price (Xmas £256 offer) and delivery, the local Curry's manageress was even prepared to go half way on price matching at the time even though they don't price match Dixons.

I've always thought that, but Currys and PCW wont ever price match Dixons. I beleive Pixmania are part of DSG as well and they wont price match them either. They argue Dixons and Pixmania are Internet ONLY.

Usually Currys and PCW have the same prices but sometimes not, and you can get them to match @ 110% against each other!

Whilst Currys and Dixons are both DSG owned, they are working on a different strategy at present, Dixons are selling online, Currys in-store.

Currys received their stock pre-Christmas but due to lack of advertising or shelf displays etc they've not sold out as quickly as they would online.

Everyone else is waiting, stock is supposedly moving again this week, I'm just interested to see where might get their stock first...

Dixon's renamed its stores Curry's and is now web only

From a price match and marketing point of view they are treated as Currys stores such that Dixons can effectively market itself as an internet only comapny.

"Currys.digital is the rebranded name for Dixons retail outlets in the UK (excluding Ireland and the Dixons Tax Free stores operating from UK airports). Currys.digital markets itself as a specialist division of Currys aimed at the technology-focused consumer with product ranges such as cameras, personal computers, audio and video equipment."

Sorry, to clarify, what I was meaning was that Currys have chosen to sell via the branches only, not through their online store like Dixons have.

I have a Foxsat HDR on order from John Lewis since Jan 2nd and they have informed me that they are currently expecting delivery at their distribution centre on Jan 19th. This was originally Jan 5th, so there are obviously supply problems from Humax.

The reason I went to John Lewis is that they offer a free 2 year guarantee, as well as free delivery.

Is the implication of the supply situation that there have been no deliveries from Humax into the country since Christmas? If so, it does sound as if Humax may have a problem. I wonder what's going on.

Oops looks like we had a similar idea and posted at same time.

Has Humax updated anyone on why supply is still extremely limited? Or is there a batch coming soon etc?

Nope, it's not you ..... looks like Currys are going to be turning their noses up at a product that they don't have to advertise or discount, it will sell come what may.
