We are supplying at best speed, the problem you are currently experiencing is dealing with backlog since the Christmas shutdown. Being manufactured and supplied in the European Union we are subject to the usual holidays of the Christian calendar as well as national holidays.

Is it just me or does that not make sense?
well to a point i can understand it as they are a large chain and need a commitment to receive atleast 2 -3 thousand of them as they would p1ss of a lot of people and it would cost more if they only had a few and spent all their time transferring them round branches

But that's not the case, Currys have certainly not had access to thousands of units pre-Christmas.

There's a lot of recent public holidays in Poland (Humax manufacturing in the EU is Polish)

And just to help it has been damn cold here (-12) for 10 days and worse in Poland plus not much gas to keep things warm! Maybe they will arrive in time for the February sales

I have a Foxsat HDR on order from John Lewis since Jan 2nd and they have informed me that they are currently expecting delivery at their distribution centre on Jan 19th. This was originally Jan 5th, so there are obviously supply problems from Humax.

The reason I went to John Lewis is that they offer a free 2 year guarantee, as well as free delivery.
What's annoying is that you cannot order on the JL website if it is out of stock so I cannot get on the waiting list. I can only hope they actually receive a large quantity however that is looking unlikely.

I ordered mine from John Lewis in Liverpool just before Christmas and have almost had it 2 weeks now.

JL are getting stocks if you pre-order in store rather than the website. They ring you when stock has arrived to debit your card to see if you still want it. Also got a twin cable dish installed by their contracted installer for £95

Both Currys and JL have taken the decision to sell via stores only at this stage, hense why JL pulled the plug on online enquiries some time ago. The other major retailers, Dixons, Argos, Comet and Maplin are selling online and supposedly are due stock next week, albeit limited like the rest. I can see this high demand continuing well into March/April, and the fact that the GBP to EUR rate is now so poor for us, I wouldn't be surprised at all if that's caused delays or reductions in order volumes.

I've just managed to find one at the Currys store at Crown Point, Leeds.

I rang the Currys customer helpline and gave them the stock number and they told me Crown Point had one in stock but I wasn't able to reserve it. So I bezzed down there and snapped it up. £299.99.

Just plugged it in and setting it up now.

It's appeared in the other half's new Next Directory at £349 - of course they won't have any for months anyway

I just called Comet to ask if it REALLY was in stock. The guy said that they did have some come in, but that they have already sold out. The website is a bit behind actual stock figures apparently! I don't know what would happen if you tried to order one.

I called my local John Lewis this morning and said "why can't you email me when it's back in stock like any of your other products?" and the lady wasn't sure why, but was able to order one for me (without taking payment). So I'll apparently get a call when it is ready to be despatched, in order to take payment.

My local satellite installer also has my details.

One way or another, I'm determined to get this box soon! I can't believe it's so hugely popular. It's so annoying Humax can't seem to stay on top of supply and demand. Somebody at Freesat needs to tell them that they can't mess the product launch up by restricting supply. They're not friggin' Apple!

You can add it to your basket, but then you have to supply your postcode. It's at that [point that it says "no stock" in your area.

There is no evidence that they are actively restricting supply - it seems to me that it's the normal thing with a new product launch - highly anticipated and the manufacturer has not produced enough up front to cope with demand (especially given that a number of the compenents will be from other suppliers, quite possibly in the Far East). It always takes time to rack up production and for that to work through the supply chain.

I agree that there is no evidence that Humax are actively restricting supply. It would be in their interest to reap the high demand whilst they have the market to themselves. It looks as if they'll be sharing it with others later on in the year.

On the other hand, there is also little evidence that Humax are pulling out all possible stops to meet the high demand. That's probably wise as it would likely require expansion of their European operation to do so. Even in a better economic climate that may not be wise. Humax are a niche player in the European market and its entirely possible that, with the Foxsat HDR, they've almost accidentally hit on a product for which the demand is unexpectedly high. Expanding their Euopean operation for a single product would not be good idea unless it was part of a broader expansion strategy. The high demand for it won't be sustained for long.

Continuing to muse a little, one thing they could do is use the capacity they have elsewhere in the world to meet the short term demand. But the problem with that is that it would result in a significantly higher priced product. Their Poland operation has almost certainly been established on cost grounds. Assembly in Europe will offer some savings in distrubution, and significant cost savings in exemption from import duty, particularly on PVR products.

Humax are certainly not restricting the supply, they just cannot meet the demand and would no doubt admit that the Christmas shutdown and economic climate isn't helping. Expect to see stock with retailers this coming week, although I suspect not large volumes given what I've been told.

It is likely that they are dependent upon the supply of components (circuit boards, processing chips etc) from other companies and production lines (they too will be slow to be able to ramp up production at short notice AND ship the components to Humax).
