Foxsat HDR and Sky+ PQ.
What is the sd pq like comparing the Foxsat HDR and the Sky+ stb, and the V+ stb?
I've been reading about the Foxsats possible "soft" sd picture. Have been holding off because of this....Thanx. |

I have found the sd picture much softer on the foxsat hdr compared to sky+, although i was using scart for sky+ and i am now using hdmi for the foxsat. Maybe that has something to do with it.
if i crank the TV sharpness up it seems to help. |

I've also found the picture soft on the Humax, comparing a standard Sky box, both using SCART (worse with HDMI).

I have Natural, Movie, Media and another setting I think on my Philips. It maybe that it justs looks better with the TV on a different setting.

Now that surprises me,would have thought the HDMI input would have improved it significantly.

I have found the Fox sat picture quality EXCELLENT. Just replaced my V+ and am thrilled. Very clear and much more life like. But then you cant compare like this, what TV, what graphics processor, have you set the TV up properly, basically, how long is a piece of string?

I went directly from Sky to Foxsat and have found no difference whatsoever in the quality.
They are both excellent. |

PQ on SD is not as good as V+ (IMO V+ SD is as good as its gets!) but HD is as good. No amount of picture weaking can get rid of a slightly soft picture on my Panny plasma, but its getting better with use. When first viewed it was notably worse than my 9200t, which is connected via scart, so u would expect HDR conected via HDMI to be better. But now its as good as the 9200t, perhaps sightly better now its had nearly a months use. Same happened with the 9200 when new, then connected to a Panny CRT, soft picture initialy but improved over time. Anybody else noticed this?

Yes I have the 9000t also, don't know if the pq has got better over time tho, praps it's just imagination.I basically use the 9000t now just to back up progs that might not have recorded properly with the V+ (lost endings etc).Basically I want the same pq as the V+ which I expected to get with the Foxsat....Also have a Panny 42" plasma. Is there any recorder, other than Sky, with an HDMI output (DVD recorder etc) which has the same sd pq as the V+? Praps I'll just get Freesat for the HD.

It all depends on what channel you are watching too. ITV SD has a lower resolution than BBC SD for example. I find ITV very soft, but BBC amongst many others is very sharp for SD quality, and easily matches Sky imo on my 42" Pioneer plasma.

Hi Boyzie, I think u will be dissapointed with the SD PQ on the Foxy compared with V+ which is excellent. Look on the WhatHiFi forums and see the comments of their own staff who have the V+ box about SD PQ. Those Western Digital V+ boxes must have a great scaler inside!
However, don't be put off buying a HDR as HD is great, u get twice the size of HDD, it doesn't take long to fill the V+ box with HD programs, and best of all its subscription free! Plus u get ITV HD as a bonus, Southend v Chelsea was great in HD as is Wild at Heart! I use my 9200t for HWMBO soaps and put the good stuff on the Foxy. 'His n Hers' PVR's makes for a happy marriage??? Avoids 'who filled my HDD up with this crap' type arguments!
