Does the HDR switch back to freesat mode for a scheduled recording?
While playing around with freesat and non-freesat modes to try and reproduce the schedule-wiping issue being discussed in another thread, something happened which took me completely by surprise:
The box brought up a little dialog box a quarter of an hour before a scheduled programme was due to start, asking "Do you want to change to the reserved programme?". It defaulted to 'Yes', so when I ignored it, it automatically switched over a few seconds later to the relevant channel in freesat mode in readiness. This was a big shock because I've read countless messages in various threads saying that scheduled programmes will be ignored in non-freesat mode, and requesting that the box keep an eye on the schedule and auto-switch back in time. Hell, I probably wrote some of those posts! A few further tests and it's consistently switching a quarter of an hour before a freesat scheduled programme begins. (The little timer symbol is showing on the LED display in non-freesat mode too which I've never noticed before.) Admittedly, switching to non-freesat mode a few minutes before a scheduled recording didn't warn me about that programme (and subsequently didn't record it) and I haven't tried putting the box in standby in non-freesat mode to see if it wakes up again at the right time. But this is far better than I thought -- has it always worked this way? |

Mine started to record also at 17:30. Looking like the OP is correct. Leaving mine in sby to check where I finish up after recording Freesat or Non Freesat mode.
Programme recorded fine left in freesat mode. Well done there are a load of people who will love this info. |

Thanks to you both. I've never had an adulation icon before so that's a first.
![]() When this first happened, I went straight into the settings to see if a software update had installed itself in the night (it hadn't of course!). I'm quite confused how nobody seems to have spotted this before. Did we all just assume this wouldn't work? I can't see how logically anything could have changed. |

I may have a look and see if it works the other way round ie from freesat mode to a manual recording in non-freesat mode but I'm not in a hurry to find out just yet.. Maybe someone already knows...

It was a remarkable stroke of luck that you were in that mode so close to a recording as I think the majority would have avoided being in this situation. What's great is that you realised the significance and posted the info. Many are nervous about even exploring this mode because of deleted recording schedules. |

Yes my thoughts too.. Lets hope a new update doesn't undo the feature
![]() I guess it's just that someone reported that it didn't work and we all took it as read.. I may have a look and see if it works the other way round ie from freesat mode to a manual recording in non-freesat mode but I'm not in a hurry to find out just yet.. Maybe someone already knows...a way to set a timer. I would love to be proved wrong though |

I suspect that we were all led astray by reports of failed freesat scheduled recordings whilst in non freesat mode not realising that the 15mins warm up time was significant.
Having the box allow users to go into non-freesat mode without a warning when there's an imminent recording is obviously not a great idea. Perhaps if it just brought up a final warning at the programme start time, that would be the best solution. But I'm already feeling much happier about non-freesat mode!* * Unless and until my schedule does get wiped again.
