Moving home - BT putting me on a 12 contract!
I just phoned up there to move my phone service, and he said that I would have to enter into a new 12 month line rental period with BT.
Is this right? |

At one time if you moved from your old house with a BT line it was only a min 3 month contract at the new address but I believe they changed it to 12 months.
They are an awful company. |

But if you keep having to have a 12 month contract with BT you'll never manage to get away from them and use a competitor.
That's the idea behind it of course. ![]() BT................ schemers and schmoozers. |

Im pretty sure that anyone taht can get BT, can get the post office landline.
The post office offer a minimum of 1 month contract and you get free evening and weekend calls to all uk numbers and lots of countries abroad AND you can call all mobiles free all weekend!!! for £10.50 per month. Id call BT and Thank them for their poor service and say that their treatment has forces you to find another/better supplier. |

all the service providers have the ability to start a new line at any premises, it just that they don't want to as we charge the service providers more to provide a line than to change the it from one provider to another. hence why they prefer to let bt take the charge for the install then pay the much lower fee to have the line transfered to them. hence why bt get you on a 12month contract

Many people don't have a choice - I didn't. I was worried that if I moved again within the 12 months I'd be in breach of contract - apparently not - I just start another 12 months contract... great
![]() every service provider can if they wish arrange connection or start a stopped line, the fact is most of then dont want to...as already stated its cheaper for those sp's to suggest that bt retail have to instal the line but that is just not true.....if it was , then how do the post office do it ?, so why wouldnt bt retail sign you up for a minimum term if you 'choose' them if your plan is to use sky or talk talk ( for example) then get them to arrange connection......if the provider you realy want only want you once you are connected then you either wait until the end of the term or pay to get out of the contract, all sounds like standard business practise to me |

Or go with the postoffice...
broadband, but my point was to Norbet who said he didnt have a choice..but if thats true is it BT retails fault ? if you wanted to buy a Ford but the only dealership in town is a Vauxhall dealer, is that the Vauxhall dealers fault ? ( no nit picking on the analogy please..most dont bear close scrutiny) how long before the post office change the T&C's on their offering, after all it wont be long before other sp's are advising potential customers, use the P.O to get the line in/started then transfer to us, but then again it may be harder to explain why a recent entrant service provider can do something more established Telco's cannot |
